As reported via several media outlets, a handy tip to use £0 road tax trick with March loophole for EV owners.
Martin Lewis, host of The Martin Lewis Money Show Live on ITV1 and ITVX, has pointed out a savvy trick for electric vehicle (EV) owners that could secure them free road tax for a year.
Martin stressed that even if your car tax isn’t due imminently, re-taxing your EV by March 31 under the current system could save you up to £195. That’s because the government is phasing out the £0 band for Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) from April 1.
By acting before the end of March, EV owners can re-tax their vehicle at no cost through gov.uk, effectively granting them one more year from the date they re-tax without the fee.
Drivers are advised to consider the timing of their vehicle tax renewal. “So, you might want to leave it til the last day of March and then it would be perfect but if you just wanna do it now and you still get a year longer.

Also reading online, does seem that there was an initial requirement that the vehicle had to be SORN and then this automatically cancels you outstanding TAX levy, then you simply renew for 12 months @ £0.
A couple of EV owners which did have their Car Tax (VED) due to finish later in the year, have already renewed for another 12 months @ £0 but the .gov.uk site warned that VED was not due for renewal, but they where allowed to continue.
This I believe applies to both EV’s and Low Emission vehicles whom pay £0, all you need is your vehicles Reg and V5 11 digit number.
