I have set it up how my Draytek Vigor 130 was setup to access its gui via router.
In theory, DrayTeK was 192.168.2.1 and RT-AC86U was 192.168.50.1 so as long as you followed the details previously for DrayTek config , just subbing out DrayTeK ip and subnet for HG612 IP address (192.168.1.1) , it should work if set up correctly on the ASUS – I have achieved this in the past with success – long time ago (does not work for BT HG612 (3B) modem)
I would avoid playing with HG612 for a couple of days, as we do not wish to cause any re-synchs etc. if happy with HG612 in a week or so, then we can set-up your configs to suit
