According to a report from Android Police, Android 15’s Powered Off Finding API opens up the ability to locate devices even when they are switched off. This is done by allowing the device to store pre-computed Bluetooth beacons in the memory of the Bluetooth controller.
This innovation, aimed at enhancing device security and recoverability, mirrors Apple’s Find My service by using Bluetooth signals to pinpoint the location of lost or stolen Android devices with remarkable accuracy.
The ability to track phones even when they are turned off will be an interesting topic from a Privacy perspective.
