I’ve discovered some absolutely great deals on foreign Amazon websites. The best is probably an Asus XT12 2 Pack for about £304 direct from Amazon itself… yes a 2 pack of XT12 for £304. £152 each. Sell the other for atleast £180 and you get a top tier Asus router for about £120 or keep it for a really great mesh for the price of what you currently pay in the UK for a GT-AX6000.

Speaking of GT-AX6000 that can also be had for approx £200 from many different countries direct from Amazon. You can also get the RT-AX86U Pro for £156. Lowest that ever was in UK around £210. Currently £270.

As you can see it’s massive discounts. I have also seen the DSL-AX82U for £170 which the UK market only touched once. Always over £200.

The only thing stopping me is power plugs. Now most people say stuff like “oh you just get EU plug” but is this really true? I’ve seen multiple unboxings for Asus routers ranging from India to people in other EU countries and the UK adapter was included. It does seem like USA and Chinese unboxings do feature a different power supply all together.

    See here at 2:34: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nei5kIlmiXg

He says it’s an “american” plug but it’s clearly a 3 prong uk. He’s Italian.

    3:14 here for RT-AX86U Pro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdfQSVPvGvY

Indian unboxing that clearly shows UK plug included.

    3:07 here for RT-AX86U: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLDhC_Wig1U

Philippines unboxing also with UK plug.

Any regions that are 100% known to include UK plugs as shown by these unboxings?

    Thank you

Yes, some good deals out there but of course buying external does present a few challanges.

I forget where but probable Asia,  I purchased my RT-AC86U outside of UK and works well, but when you factory reset the language is not English, so you have to configure your router using Asian language until you hit the option to change to English.

Lots of fake routers are available and can contain malware or be of a poor build quality etc, so trusted supplier like Amazon is advisable.

And lastly, I think there was a post on this forum, A forum member purchased a router from another country via Amazon (I think), the router then developed a fault and the supplier would not honour the warranty and returns etc.

But back to you original question, The power adapter for most modern ASUS router are universal, they come with a attachments for both EU (2 pin) and UK (3 pin) adapter plate and are classed to support World Wide Input Voltage 100-240VAC 50/60Hz.

(I will take a picture later of what power adaptor attachments I received with my DSL-AX82U )

ASUS router are shipped like that to countries like, UK, EU and further etc. but I will drop ASUS an message to see if they can advise more accurately.

I don’t think they will give a proper answer because then nobody will buy from UK store if the router is half the price haha

Wouldn’t you get hit with importing fees which would bump up the price?

Warrenty is always a problem, as Asus doesnt give worldwide guarantee, so you would have to the country where you bought your router and they might charge for shipping back worldwide too.
Thats often more for shipping than its worth.

Power plug is not the problem, you can use an adapter.

Another problematic thing is the bootloader and firmware which may be different.
I had an Asia model DSL-Router and you couldnt change region settings like on routers bought in EU, it had very limited WLAN power.

With many retailers you would but Amazon already factors in any importing fees (else it would be even cheaper). The price you pay on site is the actual price with customs already paid. It will even show what amount you paid went to customs from the total.

    @Grisu
Ofcourse I’m really looking about EU models only so wlan power should be identical. Amazon has 30 day returns so that’s enough time to check to see if the router works as expected.

Not had any feedback from ASUS yet, and may not as is a sales type question.

There are a couple of ASUS owners on this forum from US, would be interested to understand what power plug adapters was included in their box ?

And ASUS owners from other countries could let us know what power plug adapters, would be an interesting exercise

I’ve looked at some unboxing videos of US (actually quite hard to find). They don’t seem to have UK plugs or any adapters. Makes sense why they don’t. With a market as big as US you can make different internal packaging to cut costs for including all adapters. With something like the UK it doesn’t make much sense to create unique packaging for such a relatively low market so you just bundle all plugs for anything not destined for a US market and bump up the price slightly to cover the cost of every router including all plugs.

2:53 here for New Zealand unboxing showing UK 3 pin plug: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMR2asjQBJQ

I actually kind of want to buy one just to test my theory haha

Also Sentinel I could not find the facebook login button anymore (maybe I’m blind). I was David Doran. I just made this account to talk.

    I did wonder.

That is my thoughts also, EU/UK/Australia receive one set of adaptors which includes UK adapter, USA/China receive another set without UK adapter.

Wifi standards are different in US, so don’t bother buying unless you plan to return the box, then we as you say, can have a sneaky look inside

I had some issues with Facebook plugin including spammers and after chatting in the below post, most forum users preferred to sign in independently, which some other forums do also and so ditched the Facebook login option.

Do you want me to move your posts from your old account to you new account ?
