What I have read in Germany you will have to register your ONT as well by your vendor, but they have to do so by regulatory.

Fritzbox used in Germany will block change of MAC-address or ID (to the one used on previous ONT), this has been changed with 7.50 firmwares I think.
International versions still allow this change.

Yes in Germany you need to register ONT Modem (ID Serial or Modem ID) and OLT with ISP through a special link given from your ISP, the same way as in UK.

There is a way to reprogram (clone) ONT’s ID into GPON module and use it with other routers such as ASUS, but this process is very difficult for me, if ASUS allowed in GUI to change SFP module’s (GPON) parameters it would be super.

For now the simpliest is using ONT unfortunately.

    Here is some interesting Information:

It was interesting to watch the videos and see that for Fritz!box you can enable the inbuilt Packet capture utility by simple going to ….

    192.168.178.1/html/capture.html

At least it is possible to use a third party GPON module but does require, packet capture, packet analysis (Wireshark) and some dedicated extra hardware (media converter)  etc. etc. and is technically not ‘authorised’

Alas I do not own the RT-BE88U so cannot see the options the UI has for configuring the GPON SFP module, if any ? but will see if ASUS have any plans in this area

Just noticed the ASUS RT-AX89X also has an SFP+ port also

SFP port doesnt mean that all SFP-modules will work.

The chipset behind is limiting which modules are supported.
E.g. Fritzbox 5690pro can handle only PON/AON-modules and no XGS-PON.

So you will have to inform yourself which modules are supported!
