I didn’t take a screenshot but did submit feedback when 21099 was still on the router so hopefully asus have a copy.

October 19, 2022 at 12:42 am #21311Ok, so ASUS have given myself a new XT8 Firmware to resolve the issue they found with firmware – ASUS ZenWiFi AX – 3.0.0.4.388.21099 RT-AX95Q_3.0.0.4_388_21268-g64b557c_puresqubi.w (note, not normal ASUS Beta numbering format) RT-AX95Q_3.0.0.4_388_21268-g64b557c_puresqubi.w (38 downloads) I am happy for this particular firmware release to be shared to other Forums / XT8 owners and an ‘acknowledgement would be nice on respective Forums’ – this is a Beta Firmware, maybe untested, so Usual UKTH Terms and Conditions apply, (see top of Forum) Note: Firmware release 3.0.0.4.388.21099 has been pulled from download servers
I tried to update to this firmware but none of the nodes were creating a mesh network. Had to connect all xt8’s as router to downgrade FW individually to 49873 and get back up and running. No idea what I could have done wrong.

TBH – probable nothing of your making, it is a test firmware so probable best to revert back to Version 3.0.0.4.386.49873 and wait this one out.
I have just noticed Version 3.0.0.4.388.21099 has re-appeared on download servers, so no idea what is going on

October 19, 2022 at 11:01 am #21319beta version goes well ONLY on the main router… if you use it on the nodes the aimesh network won’t work anymore (the node function is broken on beta)…
I’m using, for now, 49873 on main router and 21099 on nodes…

That is exactly the problem I had, the beta on the nodes meant I could not create a mesh.
@UKSentinell, how do we put XT8 in recovery mode? In case I need to know in future? Is it to use pin in reset button hole and then power on the XT8?

October 19, 2022 at 12:25 pm #21324ASUS did supply me with another (beta) ‘this time’ firmware this morning, but I am reluctant to share as I am sure this will have issues also.
ASUS Recovery / Rescue Mode:
I do not own an XT8 – but I would imagine the following should work.
To launch the rescue mode and use the Firmware Restoration utility for XT8:
1. Unplug the wireless router from the power source.
2. Hold the Reset button at the rear panel and simultaneously
replug the wireless router into the power source. Release the
Reset button when the Power LED at the front panel flashes
slowly, which indicates that the wireless router is in the rescue
mode.3. Set a static IP on your computer and use the following to set up your TCP/IP settings:
IP address: 192.168.1.x Subnet mask: 255.255.255.04. From your computer’s desktop, click Start > All Programs > ASUS Utility > Wireless Router >Firmware Restoration.
5. Specify a firmware file, then click Upload

October 19, 2022 at 6:39 pm #21326Since upgrading the firmware to 3.0.0.4.388.21099 on my AX8 (2x). I am having issues where sometimes the AX8 node (not the one acting as a router), has a blue light flashing constantly. When I factory reset both the router and node, they will connect to each other again using the 5GHZ-2 back haul. However it will eventually go back and stick with using the 2.4ghz as the back haul. The routers are not a massive distance between each other. One down stairs, one upstairs in a wooden framed house. This issue only seems to have started happening after upgrading to 3.0.0.4.388.21099. Anyone else experiencing the same?

October 19, 2022 at 6:49 pm #21328As others will hopefully confirm, seems the firmware XT8 3.0.0.4.388.21099 release is far from ideal, did you have any issues when using the previous release 49873.
If you did not then I would strongly advise you to downgrade firmware to Version 3.0.0.4.386.49873 and see if that helps.

I would definitely advise to go back to 49873.
@UK Sentinell, would you mind sending me the new beta to test via email? I can test over the weekend if I have time. I think Asus should give you a set of XT8’s for ‘testing’ purposes

October 19, 2022 at 8:27 pm #21331I’ve been following this thread ever since purchasing a pair of XT8’s the beginning of the year,
but thought it was about time to join the party so to speak, especially as 21268 has seen a noticeable improvement over 21099 & so to share my findings.
My router & node both running 21268 without issue, but that might be due to a cat6 ethernet connection between them, (but not running in dedicated ethernet backhaul mode)
A bit of background, my web history has never worked as intended, compiling data entry’s for a couple of days👍 then it abruptly stops dead with no new data being populated.
Just clicking the web history tab had crashed the router on more than 1 occasion while running 21099,
also running a manual firmware update check crashed it once, coincidentally both issues occurred when ram usage had been sitting over 80% (normally sits 77-82) & only a power off / restart, restored internet & router access.
Early days yet, but ram sitting at 82% usage, router & node seem stable & 2.5 days of continuous web history compiled 👍.
So far, so good on 21268
(21268 waz a dirty update over the top of 21099)

So you are the one
– Running ethernet between the XT8’s will remove the issue with 21268 as you are not wifi meshed etc.Would be interesting if after a few more days you let us know if your set up with 21268 is still running well and stable etc ?

The new beta was already better for me. After updating the first node (furthest away from the router) it re-established the wireless mesh connection. I will not update the router until the weekend as I need to work from home.

October 20, 2022 at 10:17 am #21346Great news, will be interesting if the original Error log message reappears ‘/var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases: No space left on device (retry in 60s)’

I did not see this specific message in my Error logs. I think it was @Raven who had this error before the lock up. For me it was just ‘out of memory (1560)’ but could not see if there was anything prior to this log.
I have gone ahead and updated the router as well now
. Hopefully doesn’t mess up my working from home. Everything seems fine for now, but obviously there probably will be no Parental Controls as it is beta. You need to login in order to vote
