January 6, 2023 at 3:19 pm #22302As is the norm lately, the router had announced that new firmware was available before if went live via the Asus website,
I did some Google searches further afield from the UK on the 22068 fw for validation & came across the reports of the instability issues,
tho it appears Asus have the used the same version # for both the XT8 & XT9,
so the reports of instability issues I landed on came from both variants.

January 6, 2023 at 4:00 pm #22304That is normal for ASUS for similar models, if you check the change logs for both the XT8 and XT9, for Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22068 they read exactly the same, so same fixes and same bugs shared across both models on this occasion
I did read traffic analyzer still not working which would be annoying if this was true ?

March 8, 2023 at 3:34 pm #22957My family member has 2 XT9’s in their house and wants to add an additional XT8 to the mesh network.Β Are there any downside/issues to doing this?

March 8, 2023 at 5:29 pm #22959Usually better from a mesh perspective to keep all mesh nodes the same if possible, but in theory no problem adding an addition XT8 to an existing XT9 mesh.
Note: just try to ensure firmware are of the same release version if at all possible for each AiMesh node .
TBH: – As long as the addition XT8 is not used as the primary (master), (XT8 has a slightly slower CPU and hasΒ slightly slower WiFi 6 (802.11ax) (5GHz-1) up to 1201 Mbps throughput due to it not supporting 160MHz channel).
‘Hardware Specs:’
The ASUS XT8 has 1.5 GHz ( 4 cores ) and 512 MB RAM
ASUS XT9 has 1.7 GHz ( 4 cores)Β CPU and 512 MB RAM

March 8, 2023 at 6:33 pm #22960Looks like the 5GHz-2 are the same spec on XT8 and XT9.Β Only difference is impoved 5GHZ-1 spec.

March 8, 2023 at 6:56 pm #22961Asus do state,
AiMesh connects multiple compatible ASUS routers to create a whole-home mesh WiFi network. The flexible and scalable technology lets you mix different AiMesh-compatible routers, and add new ones at any time to improve coverage.* All devices in an AiMesh network enjoy access to all the features of the main router, including gaming features, AiProtection commercial-grade security and more. Most ASUS routers already support AiMesh.
The only issue I can foresee, is if Asus releases radical changes to firmware between the 2 models,
otherwise all AI mesh routers should play nice together ????

5GHz-2 are same spec for both XT8 and XT9, seems ASUS upgraded 5GHz-1 chipset for the XT9
