    Hi all,

So had my router unplugged for few hours the other week for BT engineer to upgrade my internet, it was off for several hours as I had to move everything so the engineer could get to everything.

After engineer left, i removed the smart hub, put back my asus router and all was fine, i could access my router via VPN.

However, it seems the asus router didn’t re-do the ddns, so at some point over the last week my DDNS stopped working but I don’t remote access router too often so hard to say when.

Fortunately i have a seperate ddns setup so i was able to determine the IP and change my VPN settings to be that IP temporarily so I could remote in.  Upon loading the router page, i noticed it didn’t show my ddns name at the top on login, going to the DDNS tab said wasn’t registered and I had to apply it to get it to register again.

Any reason for this?  Its been setup for probably min 6 months maybe even longer and no issues but then it has been on all that time (apart from power cut) so bit weird it’s now not registered.

I’ve now changed the ddns name also as I went with the default initially as was first time doing it :)

    Thanks

    Kev

I know DDNS has issues with multiple-NAT environment and DDNS service cannot work but sounds like by re registering you are working.

I guess (big guess) is that the first time you configured DDNS you managed to get it working with default name, without any changes etc.

Also as you are now on FTTP, I wonder if the back end routing (BT) has an impact ?

    Only a guess

    Hi,

Yes, on FTTP, just got the ONT box and then AX86S plugged in, not using smarthub at all so its basically default setup using normal router. It registered first time using default name so left it but since powering off for few hours and back on, it didn’t register ddns on router, it had all the same name etc just wasn’t registered so hence I’ve now changed name and registered so fingers crossed it remains just wondered if this was a common issue or bug?

On plus side I got a more user friendly name now :)  Fortunately only needed to edit openVPN file to change the name of the ddns address it uses to connect, didn’t have to re-do vpn settings etc :)
