Hi all,
Had a email today to advise that BT are stopping there line rental saver so after my existing year ends, I wont be able to renew it.
BT want to give me something back by way of credit to my account so next month I’ll see a credit on my account for a minimum of ยฃ10 so will have to wait and see how much it is. Credit will be based on how long I’ve been with them.
I’m currently not planning to remain with BT unless there prices come down significantly or I have major issues changing provider.

June 29, 2023 at 9:13 pm #25348Interesting, did the offer you an alternative after your current line rental saver contract expires or is it more to do with BT’s push for Digital Voice and digital phone services etc ?
If so, what are the prices like for comparison ?
I do recall Plusnet did this also a while ago !

June 29, 2023 at 11:49 pm #25350Hi,
No alternative, just basically saying its to make things easier and combining the line rental and broadband into one combined price.
So effectively the price of there packages going forward wont be broken down into broadband and line rental, it will just be one price for it all. so effectively they now take the full price each month i.e. ยฃ0, 40 quid etc and you wont know how much is for the line and for the broadband.
This is fine but I suspect they will continue to charge for the line rental but it wont be disclosed as line rental hence prices will remain higher than others but hopefully they will drop when I suspect many people will go elsewhere for VOIP service so they will effectively be loosing money.

June 30, 2023 at 8:55 am #25352That does make sense, I assume this could be part of BT Wholesale move towards Single order Generic Ethernet Access (SoGEA).
From BT Wholesale Website;
With SoGEA, weโve improved the order journey. Gone is the process of having to make two orders, one for PSTN and once installed, a further broadband or ethernet order. Now it just takes one order, meaning you can get your broadband or ethernet set up and running for your customers, simpler and quicker than before. And with only one line, itโs cheaper too.
Cheaper would be good

June 30, 2023 at 8:16 pm #25355It seems basically they want to advertise a price and say it includes it all rather than saying this is the price with/without line rental and you have the option of line rental saver which then makes you monthly payments x.ย They want to advertise 1 price per product and people pay the one price effectively.ย Makes it easier to do billing i guess for them.
I also think people are recognising the “Line rental charge” is a bit of a con now that people have VOIP and they don’t want to loose the money so are saying the new price is all one effectively still charging you line rental but not advertising it as most like complaints as to why are they paying it if no line.
