Our (my son’s) 2015 Fiesta ST-2 (180) push button start needed a second key fob as car from Garage only included a single master key fob at point of sale.

Reading online seems to be lots of different discussions regarding the type of Key Fob the Fiesta ST-2 uses and what options are best for a second (back up) key fob.

So thought a good point to add what we did for others to consider also, and after speaking with a Master Locksmith approved Locksmith, I think the choices we made where good, but maybe more expensive.

So our  Fiesta ST-2 (180) MK7  (2013 to 2017) uses a Proximity Key fob (Transponder) and engine is a Push Button Start on car dash, this key fob also contains in internal physical (metal) key for unlocking car door only if for any reason the key fob should not work.

We opted for a second key fob to be programmed/ added to the Fiesta ST as this has a couple of advantages over having the original key fob cloned.

Cars and Key fobs are temperamental, if a new key fob is cloned to the same programming as the original (master) key fob, then there could be a possibility that the programming could be lost say due to an electrical issue,  then the car has to be sent to Ford Dealership to be re programed for a new master key fob, where as if a second key fob is programmed (added) to the fiesta’s immobiliser etc, then this at least gives us a back up key fob if the master key fob fails for any reason etc.

Secondly, always a good idea to use the newly programed key fob as the main key fob for daily use , put the Master (original) key fob into safekeeping as they are usually well used and may wear out more easily.

Note: Good to ensure whom ever is providing a second key fob and programing it, that the new keyfob is a quality (maybe aftermarket) item.

By using a Locksmith approved by Master Locksmith even for car keyfobs replacement ensures the job will be done well as very often the car Main Dealers also use these same approved Master Locksmiths.

I only know this as I was at our local ford dealer showroom a while back and noticed the mobile locksmith in the showroom car park working on a customer’s car, so I had a chat with him

Got the ST keyfob badge /inlay from Paintmodz for around £5
