Thought I would share a strange noise (rattle) the Fiesta ST-2 (180) was exhibiting after a race track day, we thought was either the turbocharger was blown or the the crankshaft timing belt pulley belt guides had come off and was causing the belt to rub/rattle against the cam belt cover (common problem with some fords).
So after crawling under the car it was obvious the sound was from around the Turbocharger area.
Once the Turbo was out the below video you can hear the Turbine drive shaft clearly knocking with light hand pressure – new turbo required.
Fiesta ST-2 (180) with new (reconditioned) turbo and no rattle ![]()
Now just the big end (rod knock) noise to sort out ![]()

Yes, still awaiting the quotes from garages local to myself, but will not be good news ![]()

So as an update, had recon engine fitted via a local garage as a big job.
Cost just over ÂŁ4000 but whilst the engine was out, also had the water pump, oil pump, dual mass flywheel and clutch plate replaced –
So much for track days, can get expensive ![]()
