How to Stop Xbox One X Updating During Gaming
Ok, so my Son is a weekend FUT Champions fanatic, but has experienced times during gameplay when the Xbox One X has decided during a game, ‘it is time for an Xbox console update’ and kicks him from a FUT Champs live game causing a loss etc.
So he does not use instant On, as this is not a Green option and so updates are not applied during the quite times, we have tried Instant On in the past and sometimes updates are still applied during FUT Champs gameplay many months ago, so gave up with that option.
He was registered / using Xbox Insider which unfortunately means you receive monthly updates compared to Xbox 1 X owners whom do not subscribe to Xbox Insider, so he has Unenrolled from this.
Thirdly and the most important change, his Xbox One X has Auto-Updates disabled for both Console and Games and Apps from Friday until Monday morning (manual process), this stops updates being applied and if an update is needed, the Xbox one lets you know before you are in gameplay etc.
Been using the last option for disabling Auto Updates for the last month and so far, no unexpected disconnects due to a console update being applied etc.
To set your console to disable automatically receive updates: Press the Xbox button to open the guide and choose Settings > All settings. Select System >Updates & Downloads. Select Keep my console up to date for console and Keep my games & apps up to date for games & apps
· System -> Updates -> Keep my console up to date: Un-Checked.
· System -> Update -> Keep my games & apps up to date: Un-Checked.
· Power & Startup -> Power mode & startup -> When Xbox is off, turn off storage: Unchecked (only matters if you have games on an external drive)
