Microsoft is ramping up its support for passkeys in Windows 11, and it’s doing so with help from a heavyweight in the password management world—1Password.
The new integration, rolling out now, allows users to seamlessly store and sync passkeys via their 1Password vaults. These cryptographic keys are designed to replace traditional passwords with something far more secure and phishing-resistant. Think fingerprint scans, facial recognition, or PINs—not passwords you need to remember.
Microsoft aims to eliminate passwords for good by August 2025. This move is a big step in that direction—especially with trusted tools like 1Password smoothing the transition.

Interesting. Hopefully this support is extended to the likes of BitWarden soon

I did read that Microsoft has announced a plugin model for third-party passkey providers, and Bitwarden is one of the partners they’re working with. This means native support is likely coming, but it depends on both Microsoft and Bitwarden working closely.
