Microsoft has confirmed that Windows Server 2022 Datacenter: Azure Edition will continue receiving hotpatching support into 2027, even though mainstream support for the operating system ends in October 2026. Hotpatching allows servers to install monthly security updates without rebooting, reducing downtime and tightening security response times.
The extension applies only to Azure Edition, reinforcing Microsoft’s strategy of delivering premium lifecycle benefits through its cloud platform. Standard on‑premises Windows Server 2022 deployments will not receive the same hotpatching continuation and will follow the usual update and reboot cycle.
This move signals Microsoft’s ongoing push toward cloud‑optimised Windows Server releases and highlights the company’s focus on improving update agility for high‑availability workloads.
