Hi All,
So recently started looking at pswd managers.
Anyone have any recommendations for any?
The ones so far caught my eye are (in no particular order)
Dashlane
1Password
bitwarden
These seem to the the top 3 but can’t decide which one is best.Β Ideally want to be able to use the pswd on PC/MAc/tablets/mobiles and for them to be secure.
I was considering LastPass as they always have a good review etc but I believe they got hacked a while back so staying clear of them.
I see Nord does a pswd manager but as I have VPN wit them, want to keep the pswds separate.
Not really looked at the cost yet, I’m trying to work out which ones best etc and then look at the cost rather than have the cost as the overriding factor.
Also want it for use for min 2 people so i.e. 2 accounts.
Thanks
Kev

June 11, 2023 at 8:15 am #25093I use NordPass Password Manager and love the way it integrates itself into the sites that need a password entering.
i.e. NordPass Password Manager places in the relevant dialogue box an icon so you can just click on it and you can select credentials etc.
Others such as LastPass etc, work well but I have a sneaky suspicion cost will be one of your main deciding factors

June 11, 2023 at 7:34 pm #25125Thanks, i believe dash lane etc does this also but need to check.Β I just didn’t want to use Nord as I have that as my VPN atm so didn’t want for example someone to hack Nord and obtain my info + credential info for various sites as I’m using them as my VPN. Thought best to keep the pswds separate.
I’ll keep looking, was just curious if anyone had use any of the above I mentioned and any opinions on them as some reviews favour different ones and could potentially be due to sponsorship or a person preference by the reviewer so not always easy to tell. I forget which one but one of the above includes a VPN also which I don’t want or need but it comes as part of the family/several account option.

So i been looking at think I’ve narrowed it down to either Dashlane or 1Password.
Which one of these would you suggest? I can’t decide between them which is better.Β Both are charging the same price $4.99 a month for family, however Dashlane is family & Friends whereas 1password says family so implies only for family?
Also dashlane offers 10 users under family, 1password offers 5 users.
So realistically it seems dashlane is the better in terms of value for money but I’d prob only need 2 or 3 accounts..
However it seems 1password is possibly accessible on more devices i.e. does apple watch (not that i have one) but dashlane i can only tell does IOS, so not the watch.Β So could be they are very similar.
Dashlane also has a VPN, which I don’t need as now have Nord and don’t plan to use dashlane’s VPN, prefer them separate.
Is it worth the $4.99 a month? I’ve just got soo many pswds for different things and these days more emphasis on complex passwords etc, no way I’m going to remember numerous pswds for everything, especially if need complex ones etc.
I did also read that one of them has the ability to change the pswd on certain websites for you but I couldnt’ find the exact info, the link didn’t seem to go to the right place.

June 12, 2023 at 11:34 am #25169Dashline has never been breached but 1Password does have Travel Mode to remove vaults from your devices when you travel, which is an interesting option.
https://support.1password.com/travel-mode/
Dashline has a trial option so I would try that as from what I read online, Dashline has an intuitive password manager interface.

June 12, 2023 at 6:12 pm #25181Thanks, I’m leaning a bit towards dashlane as it says friends and family so i could potentially get a mate of mine to use it as I’ve have enough accounts as only really need 2.
Will look into it a bit more and maybe opt for a trial but the prices are the same either way.

June 13, 2023 at 7:43 pm #25191Hi Thanks
Been looking at some reviews and looks like 1password seems to score slightly better and ppl recommend this over dashlane?
Also seems dashlane has some intermittent issues on android but 1password seems to be ok.Β Not a huge factor for me as although I have a android phone, I don’t really purchase or login to sites via it, i mainly use it to check emails and browse websites in general, not login/buy items so not a big issue for me.
Only issue with 1password is it seems as it it was created mainly for use on Macs but has now been made to work on windows so i suspect the integration with mac/ios is probably pretty good and they are implementing some new feature coming when IOS 17 is release, something to do with a API in IOS 17, i guess they are creating it using beta version at the moment.
I did enquire via twitter to 1pswd, seems the family account can be used for family, friends they don’t mind and one advantage is that each person gets there own unique login BUT has effectively a private and public vault so anything in private is only useable and accessible by them BUT what they put in shared can be used by the family so is handy but as you mentioned has the travel mode but i doubt I’d use that tbh.Β I’m only likely to use it for pswds, not planning to use it to store card details, passport, driving license etc etc etc…
Also apparently dashlane has dropped there apps in favour or web based and one reviewer marked it down quiet heaving as if your browser was compromised, potentially this could cause issues wit the pswds you select etc.

I missed that dashlane has dropped its app, where did you read this ?
Update: I just checked, the desktop app has ceased, but mobile is still available which is a relief.

June 14, 2023 at 6:13 pm #25198Yeah, i’m torn between the 2.Β In some respects Dashlane looks good due to an easier to use interface it seems but the removing of the app makes me dubious re browser hacks etc.
1Passwords sounds good but was predominantly mac it seems so unsure how good the PC/android side is is and it seems takes a bit more to get used to but once you are used to it its meant to be ok/easy to use.
Shared vault sounds good to share pswds with other family members for this.
Problem seems to be many reviews/videos are sponsored as they have discount codes so it seems clear they seem to favour one more than another, not found a “independent” review yet, most I’m finding all 1 or the other.Β One even scores 1Password higher compared to around 4 or 5 others and is the one they use themselves i believe so again slightly biased.
Also need to work out how easy it is to get pswds out should I ever choose to switch to a different one due to any breaches that appear or a better product comes along etc.
Thinking I might wait till new IOS comes out and can then see new versions and see what the additional features are etc.

June 14, 2023 at 7:43 pm #25199For NordPass (free version) that I use, it allows me to take a copy of all the accounts and Passwords in the form of a .CSV file format.
I assume the others will be similar ?

June 17, 2023 at 2:37 pm #25231Still not found much regarding these so think i might go with 1pswd as although it was originally mac only, it seems to be available on multiple platforms and if I do the family plan, it creates a shared vault so that everyone can view pswds that are in the shared vault so that’s handy, saves sharing a particular password as needed.Β Can also create separate vaults for different things so i.e. not 1 bit long list of all accounts etc, I can create separate ones to hopefully make it easier to manage.Β Plus family members get there own vaults that I cannot see and they cannot see mine, only see what’s in shared so seems pretty good.
I’m leaning toward 1pswd for the above reasons, dashlane maybe nicer interface but concern regarding browser based and it seems you need to share a pswd as needed and its only a 1 time thing, not a perm thing.Β TBH we don’t have many pswds to share but are a few that would be useful to share.
