S22 mobile

Hi all,

Whats your take on the new S22 mobile compared to the S20 5G? I can’t quiet decide myself.

S20

approx 6.2″?

4000mah battery

12GB ram

S22

approx 6.1″?

3700mah

8Gb ram

doesn’t seem to quiet add up in terms of “upgrade”?

Had my S20 for couple of years now and considering handing this handset on and upgrading but not sure tbh.  Wondering if should wait for new iphone later in the year but I believe some of the features may now not come in the iphone 14.

Main thing is phone doesn’t get any real updates, just a few security updates, no new UI etc, downside with android it seems. Apple last I knew kept there phones updated for 5 years before effectively retiring them.

Funny that, I was looking at the Samsung Galaxy S22 the other day as my Sons android has seen better days and is not 5G, but at £750, I decided to stop looking.

What I did notice is that the new S22 has the 4nm processor rather than the 7nm which also uses less energy and creates less heat and a rather high end front end camera (50 MP) which seems bonkers to myself ?

Alas cannot recall if S20 is 5G, if it is then does question the requirement for an upgrade unless phone is damaged etc. ?

Yes, high prices…. Yes saw the 4nm processor but wasn’t sure how much less usage it would be given display is 12ohz…  S20 is 5G (mine is) and has 12GB ram.  Phone not damaged, its more doesn’t get any real updates after 1 year, only security stuff for possible 1 more year then nothing….

iPhone 14 is likely to be same price – just keep going up and up it seems… I moved away from Apple due to high prices and lack of features compared to Android but it seems Android has now come up to the same prices as Apple and now Apple has pretty much caught up on features so might switch back plus Apple update there phones for 5 years it seems so has advantage there.

Alternative is I could trade the S20 5G in but kind of feels like getting a lower spec phone some how…

Apple a while ago,  did lag behind the likes of Samsung in terms of new tech, such as OLED screens and Facial recognition etc, but they are slowly closing the gap and given Apple have  started to design and make there own chips, only time will tell if this is to apples advantage, and indeed ours.

Google apps are great, lots of free and interesting options, but less secure (my view) sometimes ?

Yes, that was another reason I held off for a bit going to Android that some updates caused issues with apps or app updates themselves caused a issue.

I had it with my email client on my Android phone, all worked fine and then got a update and then it never worked properly, kept crashing or taking ages to update, upon looking online, it was a known issue experienced by lots of people and eventually a fix was released and all was well but in that time i had to find a different app to access what I needed, bit annoying.

One good thing for Apple is that there system is tightly monitored and apps need testing, approval etc to avoid such issues mostly which was always a plus for them.

As you say, the gap isn’t that big now tbh so I might switch back to Apple, not decided yet, was hoping to upgrade to newer phone but the S22 just doesn’t seem worth it on initial looking so bit disappointed tbh. Nothing really sticks out to make me justify the £750 price tag

The iPhone 14 is due later this year, and it is rumoured they are bringing back Touch ID.

Price is going to be painful, I am going to stick with my iPhone 11 Pro until it breaks

yes, i heard rumours no buttons but appears now maybe not the 14 and also finger print scanner maybe under the screen but not sure if that coming off or not yet either.

Need to wait to hear more on the specs of the 14 to see if can justify it..

Biometric Fingerprint Scanner under the screen is what I believe also, Samsung have had these for the last few releases,

Yes, very true.  I also heard rumours iphone 14 wouldn’t have any buttons on it but I believe that may not be on the iphone 14.  Also rumours of a re-design on the iphone 14 so will have to see.

One issue i had with my previous iphone was the ear piece, the volume went on it and I could barely hear anyone on it, this was on a iphone 6. Not on every call, some where ok but others were really bad, android I’ve not had any calls I couldn’t hear people on but I think the phones have got a bit thicker now so maybe the ear pieces have improved now?
