    Hi all,

So I have been using Nest e smart thermostat for a while now and all been ok.  Parents have the Nest learning thermostat, think version 3.

However, I’ve now found out that google is stopping support for 1st & 2nd gen smart thermostats from Oct 2025 and no new thermostats are available in Europe/uk, not even there new gen 4.  One article I read implied the Nest e thermostat could be the next to go, leaving just the nest learning thermostat supported.  When they stop support it implies the nest app/google home wont work anymore which I presume means unable to remotely control it and I guess only works via using the nest physically, which defeats the purpose of it for me.  Looking at articles also, it implies google is getting out of the smart thermostat for Europe/uk as its complicated supporting the various setups needed.

So what’s a good smart thermostat to go with these days? Hive? I see google may be contacting affecting customers offering them a discount on a tado x smart thermostat but that looks like it using a value on each radiator to set the temperature per room, which don’t need.

I’m thinking of maybe looking to switch before mine gets chopped and maybe Hive is best way to go? I not heard of them dropping or stopping smart thermostats. I see Hive have a Hive+ subscription (approx. £40 a year it seems on a quick look) which gives you 10% of cost of hive and access to a BG fixed tariff cheaper than price cap and also has other features like keeping history of smart thermostat (otherwise limited if no subscription), so wondering if might be worth it for a year just to see what they offer and what the history is like.

    Thanks

    Kev

Bit of a bummer the news Google is stopping support for 1st & 2nd gen smart thermostats from Oct 2025.

Nice little table below for alternatives and functionality.

Interesting thanks for this I need to put some effort into this to replace my Nest thermostats as well as protects which are also EOL

Although saying that, I have checked and Google ended the 4 year stetch of zero updates for the gen3 by pushing one out on 14th July so that one’s not completely abandoned. I do feel it’s time to jump the sinking ship however

Does seem as though Gen 4 Nest Thermostat destined only for US markets and 3rd-Gen Nest Thermostat is not scheduled to be EOL anytime soon and you can expect continued support for now.

but once 3rd-Gen stock runs out in EU, no more stock will be made available, but good to hear Gen3 had a new update on 14th July.

Its a ° which is a degree symbol and part of the Tado° branding.

Dont know, but maybe Fritz!DECT 302 thermostats could be an alternative as well, they are quite popular in Central Europe.
