So after a little investigation, it looks as though the iPhone 11 Pro screens (and others I am sure) comprise of two main section:

  • OLED / LCD (iPhone 11) Display Panel (LCD Screen)
  • Glass Digitizer Screen (front glass panel)

So it seems that the Glass Digitizer screen can be replaced which leaves the original OLED / LCD panel in place and this stops issues with FaceID / True Tones and the message regarding the β€œUnable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple display” as this is all attached to the OLED / LCD panel.

Replacing just the Glass Digitizer screen needs to be done by an expert, but is a great way to reduce the cost as Glass Digitizer screens are considerable cheaper than replacing the whole screen, if done correctly, the iPhone will have no problems and no messages.
