Welcome back, I would assume by activating the ASUS AIProtection – parental control has put a drain of available RAM (memory) so this is probable why the DSL-AC88U locks up after a few days. Did you happen to notice the available RAM at any point before the router failed ?

Thank you!

I didn’t actually, however, it definitely seems to be a memory leak after checking it this week.

When I posted this issue on the 20th, the memory was at 179MB used – it is now (today – 23rd) at 200MB used so seems to be growing by about 7MB/day.

To keep things simple: Why dont you use a timer on power supply which turns off for a minute once a day (sometimes at night e.g. 5am). So your router refreshs daily and will work for 24h without problems.

Good suggestion!  I would try and like to solve this within the router’s settings however if possible.

There is a reboot scheduler. But I recommend going back to v1.10.05 build503 which is the most stable. It is not worth dealing with the hassle of having no internet connection randomly in the middle of the day and a non responsive router page and you have to manually go and restart (very annoying when not home)

Gold star for you – thank you VERY much for this; it is massively appreciated!!

Yes, I agree v1.10.05 build503 worked perfectly for me, however, now I’ve upgraded to FTTP and only using the Ethernet WAN port – on this firmware there was an annoying mechanical ‘click’ every one minute like it was trying to restart the DSL modem as it wasn’t connecting.

Upgrading to firmware v1.10.08 build593 resolved that clicking but introduced this memory leak and causes the router to hang.

I have, however (thanks to your help – I totally missed this setting) set the router to reboot once a week @ 4am on a Sunday which isn’t ideal but minimal disruption if this resolves the issue.

I’ll let it run for a while like this and I’ll post back with my findings.

Thanks to everyone again for your suggestions – absolutely cracking forum :)
