1: I think I found a really quick and dirty way to find out mpu to back up previous info. For some reason if you ping the Google DNS with specific flags it will tell you what the mpu is.

Nice little find that is, I have a Fritz!Box (modem / router) plugged in currently (long story) but ran the ping -f -l 1464 8.8.8.8 and MPU value seems to hold steady with your original maths (68)

I will plug in the Netgear XR500 early next week and try the ping -f -l 1464 8.8.8.8 cmd also to see if MPU value drops by 4

Hopefully somebody on a FTTP connection can help test the ping -f -l 1464 8.8.8.8 CMD for the full fibre connection in UK
