So had a chat with ASUS and does seems as though the ASUS 3G/4G USB Adapter Compatibility list has not been updated since 2020 and ASUS have said, “functionality of USB dongles will gradually be phase out, shifting the focus to supporting iPhone/Android phone tethering”.
Given that and after looking through this forum and a couple of other forums, does seem a couple of USB dongles work with ASUS router currently.
ZTE MF833U1, CAT4/4G USB with a Three Mobile Data SIM has been reported to work (SNB Forums) with an ASUS router last year.
