The main differences between dual-band and tri-band routers are …

  •  Dual-band routers use two bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), while tri-band routers use three bands (one 2.4 GHz and two 5 GHz).

When you AiMesh the DSL-AX82U to say an XT8 – using 5 GHz wireless backhual. the XT8 will use the Third Channel (5GHz – 2) which still leaves another 5 GHz channel available for clients to connect to. The DSL-AX82U will only have 2.4 GHz channel for clients to connect to as its 5 GHz will be used to support the Wireless backhaul.

Alas ASUS only have one Modem/Router unit currently that supports WiFi 6 802.11ax standard.
