I am thinking of upgrading from my XT8’s to the BT10.

My 4x XT8 setup have been an absolute champ after the first few months of buggy FW releases from Asus, and still going strong.

As the BT10 have been out for 6+ months or so, have the FW stabilised or are they still a buggy mess like the early days of XT8’s FW?

Any ideas if Merlin supports or can support this model?

The ASUS ZenWiFi BT10 still needs a couple more releases before Mesh becomes stable in my view, but the ASUS ZenWiFi BT10 Wifi stats are impressive.

As far as I can tell, no ASUSWRT-Merlin / GNUton support currently announced for the ASUS ZenWiFi BT10 but this could change at some point in the future.

Luckily your Zenwifi XT8s are supported until 31st December 2026 so you still have time.

I have been trying to read up on the BT10.  It looks like the wireless backhaul has MLO.  If you have a 3 units, do both nodes connect with MLO?

There seems to be not much information on MLO and how that technology works.  Probably the initial users of this new tech will be guinea pigs.

Currently, due to known chipset technology limitations, only the first node can use MLO (Multi-Link Operation) Backhaul.

That’s my understanding also, ASUS owners that are having wifi stability issues are just turning off MLO.

I have the BT10 system (2 nodes). I am very happy with it – recent firmware updates have improved stability significantly and it is certainly stable enough for day to day usage. There is more work for them to do – I find very occasionally wireless backhaul throws a fit and need to reboot the nodes. I haven’t tried disabling MLO to check the impact however.

My only real gripe is just how expensive this current crop of WiFi7 routers are! I can’t see how they can justify the prices no matter how good they are.  That aside I am very happy with the upgrade.

Took the plunge and bought the 3 pack.  Got a decent offer of £508 for the pack of 3.

Setting up with the app was a breeze after me being an idiot and plugging the ethernet cable from the router to the wrong port on the main BT10 .  I have done this so many times, not sure why I made that silly mistake – nearly 45 minutes of scratching my head.

Initial thoughts are underwhelming, not much improvement (if any) from my XT8 setup from the furthest room.

I will keep testing and then sell my 4x XT8’s (2 packs of 2) if the BT10 are not any worse.  At least the BT10’s will be ‘future proof’ for a few years

@UK Sentinel, should we make this the official thread for the BT10?  I am happy to provide feedback and if anyone else wants to as well that would be amazing?

Now waiting for Merlin to adopt the BT10, so that I can start my tinkering again….

Looks like a new FW has released:

    https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/wireless/ZenWiFi%20BT10/FW_BT10_300610236921.zip?model=ZenWiFi%20BT10

ASUS ZenWiFi BT10 Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_36921
    Version 3.0.0.6.102_36921
    59.73 MB

    Security:
1.Enhanced input parameter handling techniques to improve data processing stability and system security.
    2.Enhance system access control mechanisms.

    Bug Fixes and Enhancements:
    1. Enhanced Client Connection Stability.
    2. WPA Encryption Settings Update. Added new configuration options for WPA encryption, including the option to select AES for improved client compatibility. This setting can be found under “Network > Main Network”.
    3. Improved AiMesh Backhaul Compatibility.

I manually updated to it and then went into the GUI and it updated to 3.0.0.6.102_36921-gab1ff70_1212-gaab6f_BB0B.  I think the one from Asus had _1207_

The web GUI seems to me to be less responsive than I am used to on the XT8’s.

I thought the price was too good to be true when I made those initial silly setup mistakes.  I just could not pass on 3x BT10 for £508.  Hopefully I have not been scammed with a dodgy pack….

I was going to message you offline to see where you had purchased the 3x BT10 as the price is so good, can I ask where you purchased your 3x BT10 from or message me offline if you prefer

I will add “- Official Thread” to the end of this current topic title, makes life easier

I purchased from a local shop as ‘ex display’ – open boxed.  I think they may be closing down soon, so a bit apprehensive when buying.

I have registered it with Asus and registration expiry shows as 11/09/2027.  Not sure what that means.

Sounds like a great deal you found. Have you confirmed in the ui that it is indeed only the first node that uses MLO?

If using wireless backhaul you may find you have better performance using fewer nodes if the WiFi signal strength itself isn’t a problem with fewer

From my initial testing, nodes have to be connected to the main unit for MLO.  I tried to connect my furthest away node to the other node and MLA went away.  There may be some workaround that I am not aware of, unless you have some information?
