Has anyone had any joy getting the 166 working on a BT G.Fast connection? no matter what I do the DSL light keeps flashing and never connects. Got one today, thinking about returning it already :(
Was the G.fast service working previously or have you recently upgraded ?
Also try using the Draytek supplied DSL cable plugged into Black port on Left ?

First question is have you bought the UK or EU version? The UK version should work ‘out of the box’ as it has special UK firmware tailored for the BT/Openreach service, but the EU version doesn’t so it’ll require a manual config.

January 14, 2021 at 1:28 pm #11402Has anyone had success using the 166 as a router instead of a modem on BT G.Fast? If so what settings did you use?

Not with the Vigor 166, but have played with the Vigor 130 and the DrayTeK 2760n – if you are on the BT Firmware, can u check if the Quick Start Wizard still available, as that is the simplest option,

Thanks, I was just experimenting to see how it performed, DSL & LAN lights were on but my PC wouldn’t connect. I’ve now found the problem, in router mode the default DHCP server setting is OFF so it wasn’t giving out any IP addresses, so I turned it on! 1st router I’ve come across with that default.

I don’t think the Vigor 166 supports jumbo frames, so another “feature” as Microsoft would say

Any easy way to test for jumbo frames? I have read that an MTU of 1508 is required & this router does that (it goes up to MTU=1520 max, unlike the EU version where MTU=1500 max.)

January 19, 2021 at 6:52 pm #11470I probed DrayTeK again and this time they kindly revealed the new Vigor 166 (Gen 1) is indeed using the VRX618 Intel chipset
Intel AnyWAN SoC GRX350 + Intel AnyWAN Transceiver VRX618

January 25, 2021 at 11:45 am #11630I see several EU dealers are now taking pre-orders for the new GEN2 (212Mhz) version of the EU model. (V166-A GEN2) Price seems to be the same as for the GEN 1

It is good to see the GEN 2 units are finally available in the EU, for UK, GEN 2 is not usable as far as I recall as local cabs etc. are only fitted to support GEN 1 – and the emphasis is on FTTP – FTTH installs for UK,?
But we can all hope priorities can change

January 25, 2021 at 12:19 pm #11633I’ve used a EU variant of the 166 (Gen 1) in the UK for around 4 month now connected via bridged mode to a firewall. Not had a single problem.
If anyone was wondering about the UK firmware working on the EU variant, it doesn’t. Even tried using TFTP to flash the firmware. But not too bothered as I’ve had no issues so far and all it seems to do is automatically add VLAN 101 tag, rather than having do it manually.
I can’t see the Gen 2 coming to the UK as BT are unlikely to bother with 212Mhz G.Fast, but who knows.

Which resellers, please?

January 25, 2021 at 1:26 pm #11637If you are ordering from the UK you may find it difficult as most EU retailers no longer ship due to the ridiculous new UK tax restrictions! Stock is due in the next 7 to 14 days apparently.

or do a search on toppreise.ch/en – The swiss are already using the 212Mhz band so lots of companies taking pre-orders there. You need to login in order to vote
