September 8, 2022 at 11:11 am #20783New iPhone 14 is Apple’s first handset capable of connecting to satellite internet, which can be used in remote areas where there is no phone service.

September 9, 2022 at 12:39 pm #20791What’s the consensus on the iPhone 14? Worth buying/upgrading or not much different to the iPhone 13?
I was tempted initially to buy but I’ve since heard rumours the iPhone 15 will have a USB-C port and potentially have no buttons and notch so I’m going to wait for that as currently have a Samsung with USB-C so means I can use the same cablesΒ :)

September 9, 2022 at 1:31 pm #20793September 9, 2022 at 2:29 pm #20794Apple is considering swapping the Lightning port on the iPhone 15 devices for a USB-C port so say http://www.macrumors.com in compliance with European regulations, but will be interested to see if this is offered for UK also given our departure from EU (in part).
But if so, iPhone 15 will be well worth the extra wait

September 11, 2022 at 8:52 am #20804The new iPhone 14 does support 5G (subβ6 GHz) with 4×4 MIMO which was first introduced with the iPhone 12Β or iPhone XS (I forget which release was first) I believe.

September 11, 2022 at 1:26 pm #20815I did read that The iPhone 14 wonβt have a SIM tray in the US – Theyβll be able to use two eSIMs at once (and store more than that), but is the lack of a physical tray a big deal?

September 11, 2022 at 5:24 pm #20823Thanks, yes I heard that re USB-C port next year so I’m going to hang out for that.Β My S20 will last another year, its fine as is, it’s just started to get a bit hot at different times (not just when we had heat wave) and I doubt the OS will be updates now, just occasional security updates.Β Not too fussed about touch id.Β The only advantage to having a sim is its already activated so put it in new phone and ready to go whereas I presume if they phone withs with a inbuilt sim effectively, you will need to get it activated and number transferred to it.
Personally don’t have a issue with the normal sim card we have as I only ever touch it when I switch phones and that’s only to take it out and place it in the replacement, never take it out other than that really.
Only time I *have* taken it out is at work when needed to find out if a phone was unlocked so I placed my sim in (different provider to company provider) and prove it works or not :)
So would be a downside if they went fixed sim in the phones.

September 11, 2022 at 6:45 pm #20825Your S20 getting hot a different times does not sound good.
Like most tech stuff, always better round the corner (next release) but waiting is the real challenge

September 11, 2022 at 11:11 pm #20828Yeah, i guess it is 2 – 3 years old now, it’s not worth much now i don’t think.Β Phone operates fine, just noticed occasionally gets a bit hot whilst using it or if been using it a bit it gets hot.
Hopefully it lasts another year and can then decided do I go for iPhone or stick to android and go s23/24…. the S21 was a bit of a let down, the ram etc was less than my s20 so hence didn’t bother changing.Β Not looked at the s22 as kind of decided was going to switch back to iPhone as they provide updates for longer and phones are very similar spec wise now whereas before iPhone didn’t have wireless charging etc so felt like I’m paying more for a inferior device. But now Samsung have hiked there prices its all pretty similar.
