Hi all,
Looking for a ‘new’ ASUS router – ASUS RT-BE92U Wi-Fi 7 – any body know of any deals currently out there as they seem to be sitting around the ÂŁ219 and OC (Overclockers) have got them for ÂŁ181 currently which seems to be the best deal I can find.
Reason why I am looking at the ASUS RT-BE92U Wi-Fi 7 is it is supported by ASUSWRT-Merlin and uses CAKE QoS which is ideal for our gaming needs.

January 20, 2026 at 8:41 am #41480Finally found a great deal for my next Wifi router that support Cake QoS (ASUSWRT-Merlin), the ASUS RT-BE92U was on offer at Currys for ÂŁ169.00 this morning.
Order placed and should arrive at home tomorrow.

January 23, 2026 at 11:30 am #41507New ASUS RT-BE92U arrived and few pictures below showing what comes in the box, the wall support bracket was a nice surprise, only job now is to flash ASUSWRT-Merlin firmware and configure to suit our OpenReach full fibre connection.

January 23, 2026 at 1:53 pm #41514Interesting. I wish merlin would support the BT10 router, cake qos does make a difference.
Have you upgraded to fttp now or will it be daisychaining off the dsl router?

January 23, 2026 at 4:13 pm #41516Anything with the RMerlin touch is a benefit and is the only reason I stick with ASUS router products. ‘better the devil you know’.
Yes, full fibre now via OpenReach and Plusnet thank goodness.

January 23, 2026 at 7:40 pm #41520Hi, Very interesting :)
So does this router work ok with Nest learning thermostat or nest 3 thermostats? Also work ok with smart plugs?
I see a interesting this called sip pass-through, I’m wondering if that would help/resolve my VOIP phone… at the moment, if power goes out (usually in bad weather) the VOIP phone wont re-connect to the provider, I have to either power both off and back on in a certain order OR I have to go into the voip box web interface, change the ports and then it works and then I change them back and it works. Rather annoying to say the least.
I see currys still got the same deal on it seems…. tempting… also considering setting up separate SSIDs for the main networks different speeds like 2.4/5/6/7 as atm my main WIFI basically combines them into one and I’m still getting lots of entries in the logs which has never been resolved so far…

January 23, 2026 at 8:53 pm #41521Nest learning thermostat etc. utilise 2.4âŻGHz and WPA2âPersonal (not WPA3) so should be fine if you configure 2.4GHz for IoT and can be tweaked to suit especially if given a dedicated SSiD.
SIP Passthrough is an ASUS router feature that allows VoIP traffic (SIP protocol) to pass through the router without being blocked or modified by NAT etc. so should help if enabled and worth a try but your issues could be more complicated.
Also, make sure assign a dedicated IP for your voip device if possible as this could also help and also look at reducing the SIP registration interval which is done via the VoIP device itself usually.
Trial and error I’m afraid and let us know how it goes.

January 24, 2026 at 9:53 am #41525Thanks, good to see will still work. Yes have existing 2.4 but I noticed this one says WIFI 7 (2.4) so thought might of been different. I currently have a Guest network which all my IoT devices connect to so will keep that the same.
My existing VoIP has a fixed IP, however it still fails to register, even if I turn it off and back on, still fails, I have to go in and change the ports then change back. Bit annoying to have to keep doing but I don’t believe the RT-AX86S has a sip pass-through hence wondered if this may help. I did open the ports on router to match ones for VOIP but doesn’t seem to have made any difference as still has issue.
My VoIP has a little hub (for want of better work) which is wired to the router but still doesn’t register with provider. Phone always connects wireless to the hub but hub never registers so thought might help hopefully.
Still considering as I don’t want to spend ÂŁ170 and find out I’m no better off :DÂ Also like the idea this one will auto switch to a mobile network via USB if broadband goes down, which I might explore again as never did it with the rt-ax86s.

January 24, 2026 at 10:13 am #41527Chasing the newest gear again,
Just a reminder, first models and associated chipsets sometimes have hitches that get fixed down the line and that could be years, not months.ASUS do seem to be promoting AI enhancements strongly in their routers and wifi 8 is soon to be on the market even though WiâFiâŻ8 standard itself isnât finalised until around 2028.

March 1, 2026 at 10:07 pm #42001So I have had the ASUS RT-BE92U plugged in for 30 days and only have noticed 2 issues, the first is that certain wifi devices (apple) connected at range (weak signal) lose access to the internet for a few seconds at random interviews and then this repeats a few minuites later, especially my iPhone 16 Pro when I’m at one end of the house streaming music etc.
Logs below does seem to show a weak signal caused a brief disconnect from internet and then re-establishes itself back to a stronger signal even though device does not move. This appears to be a general broadcom / band-steering issue and/or WiâFi fading due to inactivity and power save interaction with iPhone and other wifi devices.
The second issue I’ve noticed is AP Isolation or Guest Network isolation doesnât work as expected, including situations where devices on a guest SSID are still able to âseeâ or communicate with each other and with main network devices.
I can adjust Channel bandwidth etc. to improve connectivity but hopefully something ASUS and Broadcom can improve upon over time and it will be interesting to see if they do, alas I am running ASUSWRT-Merlin (3006.102.6) so cannot send feedback to ASUS currently.
FWIW: I have not had this issue with previous ASUS routers.

April 7, 2026 at 10:12 pm #42341I was running on my RT-BE92U ASUSWRT-Merlin 3006.102.7_2 for the last few days but had to revert back to 3006.102.6 as we had issues with our iPhones printing to our Epson printer via Epson iPrint app.
Such a shame as everything else was working well
