Cross posted to ASUS ZenWiFi AX Whole-Home Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 6 System
Back in March, I picked up a Mikrotik AX2 as a test/secondary and travel router. It’s been great, rock solid, constantly updated and a nice, modern, yet inexpensive intro to RouterOS.
Now, my transition to Mikrotik has entered the next stage, with a Mikrotik RB5009UPr+S+IN set up as my new primary router.
The RB5009UPr+S+IN is the all-port POE In/Out RB5009 version, with one SFP+, one 2.5 gigabit and seven gigabit ports, that allow for simultaneous powering of the device, via two DC inputs and/or any of the POE ports. It’s a beast, and a nice looking piece of industrial design.
I’m not ready to move to dedicated APs, so I’ve switched my Asus ZenWiFi AX XT8 to AP AiMesh mode and have the primary XT8 ethernet connected to the RB5009. This process is very straightforward and the XT8 GUI walks you through confirming your existing wireless settings.
