Hi
I’m after a little help from cleverer people than me!
I have two Dell monitors run viaa TESmart KVM.
My PC runs directly into the KVM and works fine.
I have (*had) a work laptop corrected to the KVM via a USB C Docking Station (Amazon link provided for reference). Now this worked perfectly!
I also have a personal HP laptop (full admin access) which also has a USB-C connection. However when I plug it into the docking station, the mouse & keyboard work perfectly, but the monitors remain dark and are unrecognised by the laptop. I’ve mucked around with the display settings for a few hours, but I cannot make it work.
Really hoping that someone reading this will look at it and tell me an obvious solution.
Thanks

April 19, 2022 at 6:21 pm #18724Does it work with HP laptop and docking station only, monitor connected directly to dock?
I asume you are missing correct docking drivers.

April 19, 2022 at 7:02 pm #18725Hi Grisu
Thanks for the quick response. I plugged the (single!) HDMI port on the laptop into the KVM when I was testing and yes it does work fine.
Problem is that the docking port is plug and play.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks

April 19, 2022 at 7:56 pm #18726Personal HP laptop is what Windows or Chrome OS version ?
If Windows try:
- Open the Windows search bar
- Type in Display Settings.
- Check the option for Multiple Displays.
- If your laptop doesn’t detect the second display, the option will not show.
- Try detect option
As @Grisu mention, ensure all display / link / GPU drivers are updated etc ?

April 19, 2022 at 9:31 pm #18728I meant to use laptop, docking and monitor without KVM, if this works correctly.
That HDMI from laptop will work is fine, but doesnt tell us anything about docking station to work with this laptop (without KVM in first step).

April 22, 2022 at 7:46 pm #18748@shortmeister1 – did you manage to sort out the USB-C connection problem ?

April 24, 2022 at 8:43 pm #18757Unfortunately not. I’ve spent a few hours today on the problem.
- Updated the Dell monitor drivers on the laptop, although I could only do this with a direct HDMI cable to the one of the monitors.
- I can’t find any drivers for the Mokin USB-C hub and their helpdesk won’t respond to my email.
- The HDMI also works when directly connected from the laptop to the TESmart KVM.
- Absolutely scratching my head/tearing my hair out on this.

April 24, 2022 at 9:34 pm #18759April 25, 2022 at 8:07 am #18775What model is HP laptop ?
I ask as I wonder if the Type C port on your HP laptop doesn’t support Audio video steaming, its only for peripherals such as Mouse Keyboard and storage devices. ?

April 25, 2022 at 10:02 am #18777It’s an HP Envy. (I’m not feeling overly envious at the moment).
Just to remind you, the HP laptop provided by my old firm worked fine, so I know that the docking station does as advertised from its two HDMI outputs. It’s running Windows 10 Home, but I wouldn’t have thought that woulds make a difference. It’s not remote desktop.
Thanks
Martin

April 25, 2022 at 12:09 pm #18780Might be helpful (dont know): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgmEdbVW820
Seems you can connect only 1 monitor to one connector (HDMI, USB)

April 25, 2022 at 5:33 pm #18784I can’t find the model number, but assuming that it’s the same thing as the Product Number, it’s FW12EA#ABU.
I’ve spent the afternoon on the HP website updating virtually every driver I could find including all display and graphics drivers listed.
Alas it’s not made any difference but there’s now an error message in Windows Notifications
“Display Connection might be limited.
Make sure the DisplayPort device that you’re connecting to is supported by your PC. Select this message for more troubleshooting info”Of course, I’m not even using a display port!
I’m currently on the phone to HP Support. Hopefully they’ll be able to give me a solution. I’ll be in touch….

April 25, 2022 at 6:03 pm #18787No joy from HP. They checked all of my updates and confirmed that I’d already done everything that they would have done.
Since, at four years old, the laptop is out of warranty and “obsolete”, their suggestion was to take it over to PC World to see if it’s a broken USB-C port.
I really don’t want to buy a new laptop as Envy’s are mid-to-high end and have a price tag to match. I might have to though. :(
Thanks for all the good suggestions chaps!
