Need to check also if the 86 Pro does do vlans as in can assign port 2 to a diff vlan etc or if its planned but not implemented yet.
The RT-AX86U pro had a beta back in March which had the RT-AX86U VLAN option, but not sure if it is currently included in any formal releases as ASUS download site was down for myself when I looked.

June 9, 2023 at 5:30 pm #25064Just re-checked the ASUS site and is now back up, latest firmware (stock) for RT-AX86U Pro is Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.23285 and does not include VLAN in LAN option

June 9, 2023 at 9:46 pm #25074Hope so. IN one hand i’m tempted to get it maybe around xmas time but on the other, its a bit pricey just for that feature so will see how things go.
I’ll have to see if any other routers include lan VLAN capability as an alternative.

June 16, 2023 at 8:29 pm #25216Hi,
So another development, on my AX-86S, it has now decided to keep associating and disassociated my Nest products so now I’m unable to control them via the app etc…
Is there anyway I can tell it to ignore these devices and leave them connected? I’ve sat watching them on the Client list of devices and they are being connected and dropped anywhere from 3 seconds to 12 seconds…
Rather annoying to say the least….
My only thoughts right now are to :-
- reboot the router and hope they re-associate themselves.
- Devices are on 2.4 (I’ve not set them they have chosen 2.4 it seems) and it is set to Auto channel and has chosen channel 9. Should I fix the channel to say 11 for example or fix it to 9?
I’m starting to regret doing the update now.. should of left it well alone… was working ok before… :(
Anyone else having similar issues? Any update due soon?
Thanks
Kev

June 16, 2023 at 8:47 pm #25218Here is an extract of most recent log entries on rt-AX86S
rssi:0
Jun 16 20:34:10 wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(503): wl0.1: Deauth_ind <NEST MAC ADDRESS>, status: 0, reason: Unspecified reason (1), rssi:-35
Jun 16 20:34:10 wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(539): wl0.1: Auth <NEST MAC ADDRESS>, status: Successful (0), rssi:-35

Jun 16 20:34:12 kernel: wl0: random key value: <KEY VALUE>From looking at logs, it is doing this for 2 x Nest products and 1 camera I have.
It basically repeats that cycle above over and over all day long….
rssi sometime changes value but you get the just of it..
Any ideas how to resolve? Must be a way to say this device is trusted, leave it connected?
Annoying that is is a “unspecified reason (1) as to why it deauths the devices… would help if it gave a clue :(
The Nest items are in the same location as the router and have been for a good while now years and nothing has changed except the firmware update on the router. the router memory is holding at 79% so far, i thought that may of been over 95% and be dropping due to limited resources but nope, sitting at 79% atm and tbh its been doing this since I updated it.
Thanks

June 16, 2023 at 8:47 pm #25219There is an ongoing bug with the network map, but this is been around for a few releases on most ASUS routers.
Time to downgrade firmware back to what is was

Try changing 2.4GHz channel to 1, 11, or 6 as these tend to be the channels that suffer from the least interference.
Also you did have these types or log messages before and thought they were associated with Roaming Assistant

June 17, 2023 at 11:44 am #25226ok will try that – Yes, had it before and I disable remote assist and it did reduce the number of logs but its still occurring I see, I thought it had stopped as I thought it was just jumping from 2.4 to 5 constantly but seems still a issue.

June 17, 2023 at 12:03 pm #25227ok changed the channel, will now wait and see as it can take a while for nest to re-connect.
I’ve set the 86S the same as the 86U in terms of channel. Only thing different is the Target Wake Time field. on the 86U is enabled but i read online for IoT devices best to disable it so I’ve disabled it on the 86S and left enabled on the 86U. I’m still seeing 2 MAC addresses Assoc/disassociate etc but fortunately they not the nest products so will leave it for now and see what happens.
The errors before happened after the firmware update so its all tied to this firmware update. I might have to look and restoring the one from over a year ago if it continues as it doesn’t seem to just be 1 or 2 devices, it seems to change and do it for any device at random times. Until yesterday Nest was all online then suddenly its offline and in the logs Nest is assoc/disassoc and I’ve changed nothing so it seems to be randomly going through devices connected, some have been up several days others cant’ stay connected for more than 12 seconds…. crazy.
Hopefully Asus working on a fix/update, not sure why. My setup is pretty basic tbh, not implemented any of the stuff i was considering so its basically 1 router, 1 switch and in default setup with a few settings turned off, 1 guest network and 1 main network and a VPN setup on each router so I can connect between the 86U and 86S as required.
That’s pretty much it. all using WPA2

June 17, 2023 at 2:32 pm #25230HI,
So so far, changing the channel has allowed the nest products to all come back online and be reachable. There is still 2 MAC addresses being assoc/disass but I’m not sure what they are as no record on the clients list of them so will have to check what’s not connected but for now the important ones i need nest and smart sockets are all reachable thankfully.
Will keep an eye and see if they start to drop off again…
Thanks for help!
