has anyone bought one of these? i have! i spent 3 hours last night trying to get it working with the new draytek 166? including 2 support chats with netgear, they have said that the router doesnt support mer option for dhcp! thats the whole reason i bought this to get rid of my skyq hub, can anyone confirm if this is the case? as i thought Netgear was one of the brands that worked out of the box for mer option, devastated if it needs to go back already!

    tia!

Congrats on new purchase and I know for the XR500 SKy Mer Works, but your XR1000 is very new and so maybe firmware is not as good as it could be just yet (matured)

I would also not use the Vigor 166 currently and try another modem if possible to see if that works, just eliminates one potential problem until SKy MER issue is resolved, or not.

Also make sure firmware is as updated as possible (manual download if needed)

Below PDF for setting up XR500 with Sky, should be simular for XR1000

(The selection box ‘Does your internet connection require a login?’ should be set to ‘No’

Then at the bottom of that same page in the box ‘Client Identifier String (Option 61)’ you should enter the abc123@skydsl|abc123)

Firmware Version should be at least Firmware Version 1.0.0.52

I have asked NetDuma if Option 61 is or will be supported for the XR1000

Or Switch you ISP to BT / or other and have more hardware choice options

Ok, so I have had an email back from NETDUMA via their Forum and alas no Option 61 currently for the XR1000 but it is planned/requested.

    So you can either…

    • wait for updates (no timescales) or
    • replace SKy with BT or
    • change XR1000 to XR500

FWIW: Sky Broadband is restrictive and I find BT’s Broadband works well for routing / gaming and using alternative hardware etc.

I would give SKy a call and see how much they would ask for cancellation of broadband – just tell them reason is for Gaming and milk it a bit

SKy not being helpful,  can you replace XR1000 with XR500, as that is easiest option ?
