Had to read the fine print to see about losing the phone line.Β Makes no sense, as you say that’s the whole point.

Sorry if I was confusing!Β I have a BT line to the house.Β Our telephone number (and associated internet account) is on that line.
If you port a BT number to a VOIP service, all services associated with that line are deactivated; I would lose internet and phone.
To keep my number to use on VOIP I must get a 2nd phone line, THEN port the ORIGINAL number to VOIP, so I don’t lose internet.Β I have not ported number, and so currently have 2 numbers in use on the 7490 – analogue (original number) and VOIP.In my effort to save money, I’ve purchased a router (7530 – internet and VOIP) that can’t be utilised as a direct replacement to the 7490 (which has the incoming BT line for phone and internet).
Original plan was just to update hardware (7490), and perhaps utilise that previous hardware (7490) as a Mesh repeater.Β Β Since nothing has failed with the original hardware, I can use the 7530 as the repeater (via wifi or powerline, I don’t have lan cable yet).
I had intended to use the 7530 for internet only, and perhaps the 7490/7360 for handling analogue phone line as a workaround, but I might as well leave the 7490 in place as master, 7530 as a repeater, and my 7360 as spare whatever.
If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it!

For those looking at VOIP there’s a little detail that may be a deal breaker when it comes to porting a phone number – “The port will terminate the phone line and associated services like broadband”.Β The VOIP service was simple to setup and the quality has no issues.Β But having one line to service my phone and internet means porting the number to VOIP would break it.Β Something to consider if planning VOIP.
So since I cannot afford a Fritzbox router with BT Analogue in, I will continue with the 7490 as the Master and the 7530 (Zen edition) will be the Slave, though I could not get them behaving as such – that’s a new post in the near future.

Well spotted Grisu, that’s how I ended up with the 7530 in the 1st place!
Forgot to consider – 7490 mesh master / incoming calls – 7530 as mesh slave.VOIP just got activated; quick test can’t tell the difference so might stick with VOIP over BT.
BT Engineer moved our Master Socket right next to the front door.Β Wifi in the house isn’t bad, but thought it could be better.

I just didn’t read the specs on the 7530 before bidding on the auction site.
VOIP all setup on the 7490, just got to wait for the line to start working (perhaps I did something wrong…)Once successful, and there is no difference in quality – port number.Β Once done, move to the 7530.Β That alone might suffice for the wifi, but I’m wondering if using the 7490 Mesh instead of power plug in one corner of house will work ok (work PC only) and also serve as extending wifi into the garden.

Previous experience with VOIP at work was… flaky.Β But it’s only for incoming call from Family.Β We’ll still have a physical line and mobiles for emergency.
I think I need to get the free VOIP account and see if there’s any noticeable difference in quality.Β There shouldn’t be any difference usage wise as the Fritzbox lets us use the Analogue phone as a VOIP phone?
I guess it might work better on the FON app for smartphones too.
