How’s the WiFi stability and performance?Β That was my last problem before I sold it.
I’ve just had this router returned to me since I sold it on eBay because the buyer was not happy with the WiFi range – ridiculous!Β He thought the extra antenna’s would give a better range and decided to return it when it didn’t perform as he expected.
I think I’m going to be stuck with this router forever!

I have about 30 devices in my home, although I’ve only been trying about 18 Wifi devices and 7 Ethernet connections (Added ports with an unmanned switch).Β Everything on Ethernet works just fine.Β However, WiFi devices suffer from some or all of the following:
- Very slowly to connect
- Some need to be manually connected every time
- Slow speed
- Intermittent slow speed or ‘pauses’ where it takes 10 seconds or so to work
- Cannot connect at all
- Will only connect after Router is reset.
I’ve tried numerous WiFi settings to try to rectify, I’ve tried beta 583 and stable releases of 503 and 460.Β Each time, a full factory reset took place after flashing the firmware.Β For a router selling at Β£250+ on the high street, this is totally unacceptable.Β It has too many bugs for me or ‘workarounds’ that are required to get something to work (i.e. Youview IPTV!)
I plugged in my BT Smart Hub 6 last night, not a single issue, not one!Β Everything works perfectly.

I had loads of WiFi connectivity issues with 583, particularly on the 2.4Ghz band, with devices unable to connect or only able after several attempts.Β Eventually, I downgraded to the current official stable release (503), factory reset and setup the router again.
For some reason I cannot fathom, my IPTV (Youview) is still working fine!Β I did continue to have WiFi issues, although not as bad.Β I managed to resolve the remaining WiFi issues by switching off ‘Airtime Fairness’ and setting the Multicast Rate to 54Mbps max.Β Also, about 3 restarts of the router itself seemed to help.Β At the moment, everything is working properly on 503 but I obviously want to monitor this for a few more days to ensure its stable and reliable.

Just installed 583 beta with the Plusnet + Youview setting, and it’s now working fine (Although how long I do not know due to these potential memory leaks).Β I did have to enable Traffic Management and set the upload speed to 18mbps in order for HD/4K channels to work properly, on the advice of
‘d10brp’ on the BT forums- How can I monitor the memory usage?
- Do you think ASUS is getting close to finding the solution to the memory leaks?
- Should I give up, sell this router and find a suitable replacement!?

I wish that were true.Β I’ve tried both 502 and 503 FW with Plusnet + Youview option, but still my Youview box will not connect to the internet or receive IPTV channels.
If I swap the Ethernet cable to LAN Port 2, internet connectivity is restored, but still no IPTV.Β There was another chap on BT forums with the same issue who could only get it working by following your advice but using the beta 558 build, which of course has the memory leak!

Does anyone know if there’s an older,Β stable version of the FW that does work with BT IPTV?Β Currently have 503.
Update: Tried 502 FW whilst I happened to be on an IPTV channels which was blank.Β As the update installed, the channel started working but the Youview box reported no internet connection even though the IP channel was playing in the background!Β Now, back to same problem.Β Youview box reporting no internet connection and IP channel no longer working.Β I guess I’m going to have to work my way backwards through old FW releases until I find something that actually works and is stable!
