- The new one my friend bought certainly isn’t GEN2. There may be a problem if they change to the GEN2 chipset in the UK model as they’ll probably have to go through certification again by Openreach to get the new hardware approved (which can take months!). As Openreach haven’t indicated any intention of utilising the GEN2 (212Mhz) technology I doubt DrayTek will bother investing the time & money involved if they don’t have to. (unless the older GEN1 chipset is discontinued forcing the change). - Stock is low at the moment, Ā£103.50 here but on back order: https://www.broadbandbuyer.com/products/41275-draytek-v166-k/ - You need to login in order to vote - Trying to sell on Ebay for Ā£150 new (or Ā£120 open box) is a bit rich as they’re under Ā£110 (inc delivery) retail - A friend of mine bought one recently, obviously a new batch has arrived as it came with 4_2_3_BT firmware from the factory. - You need to login in order to vote - For anyone looking to buy a V166 – On eBay I’ve just spotted a Vigor 166 GEN2 (EU model) up for auction here in the UK, can’t be too many of these around! It’ll be interesting to see how much it sells for. - You need to login in order to vote - For owners of the EU version (GEN1 & GEN2) – Draytek in Germany have added a beta firmware page to their server - http://draytek.com/download_de/Firmwares-Modem/Vigor160-Serie/Vigor166/BETA-TEST/ - Note: The UK model V166-K won’t accept EU firmware & Draytek UK doesn’t seem to have a beta site yet. - You need to login in order to vote - New Firmware has been released - UK Model V166-K v4.2.3.BT @:Ā https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/downloads/vigor-166 - EU Model V166-A v4.2.3 @: Ā Index of /Vigor166/Firmware/v4.2.3 (draytek.com.tw) - Both GEN1 & GEN2 EU models use the same firmware - You need to login in order to vote February 25, 2021 at 10:24 am in reply to: DrayTeK FTP Site for Firmware Downloads DrayTek FTP root at http://ftp.draytek.com Firmwares DrayTek Firmwares available by FTP Download ftp://ftp.draytek.com/ or http://ftp.draytek.com In a completely sane world, madness is the only freedom (J.G.Ballard). #12204February 7, 2021 at 12:45 pm in reply to: Firmware Release Notes for DrayTek Vigor 166 (UK/Ireland) Release Notes for DrayTek Vigor 166 (UK/Ireland) Firmware Version: 4.1.1_BT (Formal Release) Release Type: Initial Release Build Date: 28th September 2020 Release Date: 4th January 2021 Revision: 93712 Applicable Models:... #11865- NOTE: If you have one of the 1st batch where the box says firmware 4.0.5_BT – IGNORE IT! The units were all upgraded to 4.1.1_BT before they were shipped. - You need to login in order to vote - I didn’t bother with the BETA firmware as others said it made no difference, if you want to give it ago its here: - https://www.draytek.co.uk/download/support/files/v166_bt_423RC1.zip - You need to login in order to vote - I read the other day on Kitz an owner on G.fast having issues with upload speeds, so hopefully Draytek vigor 166 will improve - No problems with upload speeds on my line, speedtest.net shows over 47MB & the Vigor’s own stats page shows attainable rate at just over 50Mb & actual rate at just over 48MB - You need to login in order to vote - The main problem with the current firmware is a lack of Line Stats, The menu is quite extensive but unfortunately half the stats aren’t registering, just a lot of zeros. There is a beta firmware (I haven’t tried it yet) which is supposed to fix the problem, but so far those that have tried it say it doesn’t! - Incidentally, the newer GEN2 (212Mhz) EU version (V166-A GEN2) hit the shops a couple of days ago priced at around ā¬140. Anyone wanting to buy one who resides in the UK may have problems, lots of EU retailers are refusing to ship to the UK at the moment because of the new UK tax regulations. - You need to login in order to vote - I see several EU dealers are now taking pre-orders for the new GEN2 (212Mhz) version of the EU model. (V166-A GEN2) Price seems to be the same as for the GEN 1 - It is good to see the GEN 2 units are finally available in the EU, for UK, GEN 2 is not usable as far as I recall as local cabs etc. are only fitted to support GEN 1 ā and the emphasis is on FTTP ā FTTH installs for UK,? But we can all hope priorities can change - Future proofing? GEN2 model should work in the UK as it’s backwards compatible with GEN1, & whilst we all want FTTP the reality is it’s still several years away for most of us. I know my local exchange is only fitting FTTP to new builds & commercial clients for at least the next 3 years! I’m also guessing that areas with G.Fast already available will be towards the bottom of the priority list when it comes to FTTP, so maybe a cab upgrade to 212Mhz may become an easier (& cheaper) solution for Openreach in the medium term & help them meet their targets for super-speed broadband (although they’ve miss all their targets so far!) - You need to login in order to vote - If you are ordering from the UK you may find it difficult as most EU retailers no longer ship due to the ridiculous new UK tax restrictions! Stock is due in the next 7 to 14 days apparently. - allfirewalls.de

or do a search on toppreise.ch/en – The swiss are already using the 212Mhz band so lots of companies taking pre-orders there.- You need to login in order to vote - I see several EU dealers are now taking pre-orders for the new GEN2Ā (212Mhz) version of the EU model. I have read that an MTU of 1508 is required & this router does that (it goes up to MTU=1520 max, unlike the EU version where MTU=1500 max.) - You need to login in order to vote - Has anyone had success using the 166 as a router instead of a modem on BT G.Fast? If so what settings did you use? - Not with the Vigor 166, but have played with the Vigor 130 and the DrayTeK 2760n ā if you are on the BT Firmware, can u check if the Quick Start Wizard still available, as that is the simplest option, - Thanks, I was just experimenting to see how it performed, DSL & LAN lights were on but my PC wouldn’t connect. I’ve now found the problem, in router mode the default DHCP server setting is OFF so it wasn’t giving out any IP addresses, so I turned it on! 1st router I’ve come across with that default. - You need to login in order to vote
