As far as I am aware they are both plunged in the switch but via a patch panel would this make a difference or could it be just the lenght of the connection?

Now I am confused just did a search and got this link where it says and I quote “Latest stock firmware introduces Aimesh-NODE support as child over LAN on DSL-AC68U.
So it is possible now to reuse this modemrouter as Aimesh node with Wifi AND LAN backhaul!”You need to login in order to vote
I have decided to sell the DSL-AC68U and get an RT as I would like to use my LAN as the backbone and reading around this is not possible with the DSL version. I was hoping it would work over one of the LAN ports as all I will be using this for is the extend the range of my wifi .
I am still interested in what Asus has to say as this seems all to confusing to me and DSL version was listed as supporting AI Mesh reason I brought it was so if my main router went down could use it as a spare.

This link says it does not support being a node
https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1039736/
and I cannot get the RT firmware to load following the instruction earlier in this topic :(

From what I see on the website it can only be primary but there seem to be a suggestion on here that you could also have one as a node.
