Hi
I have recently updated my DSL-AC68U with the latest firmware and I cannot see anywhere to set the router node or get it to connect as a node after a rest?
Current firmware is 3.0.0.4.384_81981-g632ffdf
many thanks

June 12, 2020 at 6:52 am #7977on the main page after you have logged in, do you see any AiMesh options at bottom of Network Map page ?

June 12, 2020 at 8:01 am #7984Yes I have two dsl AC68u and cannot get one to become a node and I can see that on both of them.

June 12, 2020 at 8:23 am #7985I thought the DSL-AC68U only supports AiMesh Node (Not Primary/Master) and had a look at changelog and I see no mention of AiMMesh supporting Primary etc.
Also, the DSL-AC68U via AiMesh (node) can only be achieved by wifi, as the DSL-AC68U does not have a dedicated ethernet WAN port ?

June 12, 2020 at 9:27 am #7988From what I see on the website it can only be primary but there seem to be a suggestion on here that you could also have one as a node.

June 12, 2020 at 10:04 am #7989AiMesh Node for DSL-AC68U yes, (I tested the beta before it was released ages ago)
DSL-AC68U for Primary (I will ask for re confirmation from ASUS as changes do happen )

June 12, 2020 at 11:38 am #7991Ok, so I have heard back from ASUS and they say:
‘AiMesh Primary and AiMesh Node is supported by the DSL-AC68U’.
(It would be good if another DSL-AC68U owner could confirm that DSL-AC68U supports AiMesh Primary) via wifi ????
Is your AiMesh set-up via Wireless or Ethernet as Ethernet is not supported for AiMesh node?
Also, best to place both unfits next to each other for AiMesh pairing as it may take several attempts as its not an exact science ;-)

June 13, 2020 at 4:24 am #7997This link says it does not support being a node
https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1039736/
and I cannot get the RT firmware to load following the instruction earlier in this topic :(

June 13, 2020 at 6:12 am #7998This is the changelog for the DSL-AC68U:
Version 3.0.0.4.384_81140 2019/09/2442
ASUS DSL-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.384_81140 (This product supports both Annex A and Annex B)
New Feature:
– Now supports setup as AiMesh RE node.I will show ASUS the link you provided as it does say different to what ASUS have told me

Maybe an option not to flash your DSL-AC68U with RT firmware as a new coder has created firmware with ASUSWRT-Merlin and DSL – https://gnuton.github.io/asuswrt-merlin.ng/

June 13, 2020 at 8:37 am #7999Try Gnuton’s Merlin-fork as first step, afaik it supports beeing a primary or child-node now.
Asus only supports primary mode, as it is supposed to be on the DSL-line and primary anyway.
The word node is used for primary and child, so maybe some confusion coming from that.

June 13, 2020 at 9:30 am #8000Yes, lots of words for same meaning ;-)
The changelog for DSL-AC68U does say ‘AiMesh RE node’ = Remote Endpoint, which is child etc.
But yes very confusing – but nothing new with ASUS

I have emailed them the link provided by @Wizball to see what they (ASUS) think ?

June 13, 2020 at 12:45 pm #8001I have decided to sell the DSL-AC68U and get an RT as I would like to use my LAN as the backbone and reading around this is not possible with the DSL version. I was hoping it would work over one of the LAN ports as all I will be using this for is the extend the range of my wifi .
I am still interested in what Asus has to say as this seems all to confusing to me and DSL version was listed as supporting AI Mesh reason I brought it was so if my main router went down could use it as a spare.

June 13, 2020 at 2:43 pm #8004Possibly it is like this:
As primary node with WAN on DSL it will support both acting as Aimesh master over LAN and WiFi,
and as child node only over WiFi backhaul.
Or maybe you first have to set WAN to LAN1 (instead of DSL) to get it working … (dont know).

June 16, 2020 at 6:45 am #8058Ok, so I have had feedback from ASUS and in short, the FAQ is incorrect, the DSL-AC68U supports both AiMesh CAP (Primary) and AiMesh RE (Node)
The FAQ in question will be updated,
Also and for clarity, the DSL-AC68U supports only wifi for AiMesh RE
——-
FYI:
AiMesh CAP – Central Access Point
(ASUS AiMesh Primary/Main (CAP) Router)
AiMesh RE – Range Extender
(ASUS AiMesh Node/Child (RE) Router)
