I spoke with ASUS and have tested these options, seem to work OK for Putting DSL-AC88U into recovery mode (Rescue Mode) and for Clearing NVRAM, see below link DSL-AC88U Recovery Mode
Thanks, i contacted ASUS also and they said that in my situation it is a hardware fault the chip is dead, so got a refund and a new ASUS modem.
