So I have had feedback form ASUS this morning and seems the above link to ASUS supported 3G/4G dongles is no longer maintained (2020) ish.

ASUS have said –

This list is no longer maintained as currently our firmware should be able to support most of the 3G/4G dongles automatically. 

However, if encounter any issue with specific model, please let us know.

So if you stick with mainstream dongles supplied by ISP, then this should reduce the risk and they (ASUS) are happy to assist with compatibility issues
