Summary: Both DSL Modem/Router combos and standalone Routers require as a minimal 72 MPU (minimum packet unit) value for CAKE SQM (QoS) as a guide for BT > VDSL > PPPoE usage in the UK.

Would be interesting to see what does happen if MPU is set, as you say to 50 or lower, just for testing purposes
