Hi all,
I heard Amazon prime are to start including Ads from 5th Feb in the UK. There will be an additional charge to remove the ads.
Does anyone know if the Ads will be before the film starts or will they be during the film also? I’ve tried looking but not found this out, only they aim to be fewer ads that competitors but that’s all, no indication if the ads are at the start and end or if will appear during the film.
Currently have Prime as I get free delivery from also which is handy will have to see how the ads work out as good become annoying to watch if they put sever al during the film. Wouldn’t mind if they were before it starts but ideally don’t want them coming during the film.
Thanks
Kev

February 3, 2024 at 5:26 pm #30375I think the charge is an additional £2.99 a month or £35.88 annually on top of the existing £95 a year charge.

February 3, 2024 at 6:04 pm #30376Great question as I was also trying to understand this with our Amazon Prime account for streaming

February 5, 2024 at 3:38 pm #30390So had on a movie today (whilst working) via Amazon Prime and when I first logged into our Amazon Prime account for streaming, I was given the option to upgrade at an additional cost or allow the option to include ads.
I selected include Amazon ads and an advertisement was shown before the movie started, for 24 seconds and I was given no option to skip the Amazon prime streaming advertisement.
Then a second advertisement interrupted the movie after about 25 minutes and the amazon advertisement lasted about 15 seconds, and again no option to skip.
I am sure Amazon will start gently with advertisements and placements / frequency etc. and increase them over time

February 6, 2024 at 6:19 pm #30470Thanks for info, shame they doing in the movie. Did it provide a price for ad-free? I was expecting some kind of discount if you paid yearly as opposed to £2.99 * 12 :)
I’ve not tired mine yet, mainly watch a movie sometimes weekends.

February 6, 2024 at 6:29 pm #30471The Add during the movie was annoying, but better than paying an addition £2.99 a month.
when I originally opted to include ads, I was only offered add free for £2.99 a month, alas no yearly or discounted options.

February 6, 2024 at 7:29 pm #30473Thanks, that’s a shame, would of been a good way to entice people to pay say £25/30 for a year as opposed to £2.99 a month. Opportunity missed? Still not sure why they needs adverts with the billions they make per year…

February 6, 2024 at 9:02 pm #30484Will be interesting if Amazon are prepared to take the initial hit, I did read that an add blocker can block the Amazon prime streaming ads, but not tried it yet.

February 7, 2024 at 8:29 pm #30492Yes, I saw something similar but can you get adblockers on a TV or appleTV or is that only if viewing on a desktop/laptop/tablet?

February 7, 2024 at 8:43 pm #30493You could connect your TV via HDMI to the laptop and use adblocker.

February 7, 2024 at 8:49 pm #30494Some Samsung Smart TV’s have an ad blocker option.
Whats your TV model ? I might have a play with my router over the weekend to get an ad blocker working, maybe Diversion or an ad blocking DNS like Adguard for testing purposes.
