Thank you, the newer version hasn’t been released for a long time. Do you have any new information on this?

I spoke with the ASUS DSL team Earlier this week and November is now the time they expect the new firmware to be released

Some of the issues with the current (last years) firmware release does have work arounds, so if anything in particular causing issues, let us know

Alas no new firmware from ASUS – last one was back in January , but was later removed.

The latest is 1.10.06_Build591  but some are finding Version 1.10.05_Build503 from ASUS download servers more stable

What is better in fw 1.10.05_Build503?

My original fw was v1. 10.5 build 502, but I didn’t even run on this one just updated to latest…

Now wonder if different fw may have different dsl drivers?

    Edit

I can see that build 502 and 503 was with previous dsl driver. Is there a chance to get these with telnet unlocked? Pretty please :)

@Mrk26 – Alas no with regards to Telnet for older firmware, I have to pull favours from ASUS and favours are limited

From Memory, Older firmware had less memory loss issues (AiProtection), and more stable wifi and DSL disconnects less often, I believe.

Of course favours may be needed in future :D.

I thought you may have these already, in that case not problem, I may try locked one sometime. Only issue I have is related to amount of errors that is why I think it maybe related to dsl fw. I read somewhere that newest dsl driver from broadcom is more friendly for G.fast than standard vdsl. Apparently older broadcom driver was better for vdsl connection.

Is it a one chip solution for G.fast and vdsl? I have seen other modems where they use 2 seperate chips with a small relay to switch from  one to the other. They can use best driver for each chip and so less dependant on manufacturers driver.

Indeed ;-) I have not had anything from ASUS to suggest older Firmware Drivers are better than newer for VDSL, but does sound plausible.

That is the problem, all industry focus on latest tech so this what is from previous age (vdsl) it’s left behind. By focusing on polishing g.fast they not necessary do better for vdsl..

I already got previous fw for dsl-ac88u so just need to force myself to use one without telnet and probably sometime next week I will have a go ;-)

Did you own an ASUS router before, and if so did the USB modem option work with your phone?

    What model phone is it?

Update: I contacted ASUS and they say – Indeed supported, however, only limited models. What’s the make and model of target USB modem/phone ?

I have never used an asus modem before. Mobile phone is android operating system. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. It recognizes the phone as USB Ethernet but does not use the internet. While doing this experiment, DSL sometimes stops working on the Internet.

@Black Bird, I spoke with ASUS and they say you phone is not supported, from what I call, most phones are not officially supported,

This is one of the areas ASUS could do so much better in, but they do support USB modems well.

I seem to recall (I will check later as out at the moment) that you maybe be able to use an external Wifi/USB bridge or old ASUS Router to plug phone in and then connect to router ?

    —————-

I am afraid in this case USB Tethering needed which is not supported by this phone model.
