After trying, I discovered something bizarre. the vlan id function is present on the rt86u but it is hidden inside the setup wizard, in fact it is necessary to activate it, go to professional mode and enter the special requirements of the isp to access a window that I have never noticed, the functions were incomprehensible so I did the simplest thing for an ignoramus which I am. on vpi enthernet, i entered my isp’s vlan id and it worked.
That is great news and glad you got your set-up working, was the Professional Mode window only available during the setup wizard, as I wonder if the value you entered for your VLAN ID ‘385’ have something to do with your router IPTV configuration settings on your ASUS RT-AC86U router.
If you get a chance, have a look at Advanced Settings > LAN > IPTV and see if any value are added there ?

May 8, 2023 at 2:19 am #24307I managed to get this potato of a router to forward WoL packets to my PC from outside my network using the standard firmware. This has been working stably for nearly a year but unfortunately I have upgraded my PC and it has a new MAC address and I can’t get it to work again. I’m not sure how I managed to fluke it before as the device doesn’t store the ARP table between resets and there is no way to add an ARP entry via telnet without the debug firmware. I have updated the port forwarding rule and given the computer a static IP and it has been added to the WoL page (for what it’s worth as it doesn’t work with the latest firmware).
Anyone else managed to get wake-on-wan working and know the exact sequence to get it to work?

May 8, 2023 at 8:46 am #24310Is it worth trying a Windows MAC address emulator/changer, so you can configure your new PC to use your old MAC address ?
Glad to see your ‘potato of a router’ is still going strongÂ

Good idea but spoofing the MAC address doesn’t seem to work. I’m guessing it only works at the software level.
I’m working around the limitation by either sending the WoL packet to the broadcast IP 192.168.1.255 when I’m at home or connecting to the AC88U via VPN and then using the “Asus Router” app to talk to an RT-AC68U on my network when I’m out. It’s less elegant but gets the job done. Mostly bummed because I know it’s possible but don’t know how

May 9, 2023 at 8:14 am #24345Does this help ? Alas the DSL-AC88U firmware was written in a slightly different code to mainstream ASUS routers firmware, hence lack of support etc.

May 14, 2023 at 12:39 pm #24480And just like that, remote WoL is working again. I literally did nothing and it just randomly started working

Very strange, but sometimes little miracles do happen.
It will be interesting if the Remote WoL survives a re-boot

Hello, by any chance, do you still have access to debug enabled firmware for this device? If yes, may I also request a download link for v1.10.08 build593 or whichever latest version you can access? Thanks a lot
