yes, 2 years ago and stopped any further development …
You could download GPL from Asus and compile it on your own, but they’re mostly not correct and missing things, you will be allone ;-)
Is he the same forum user? https://uktechhub.com/forums/topic/dsl-ac88u-in-ap-mode-need-help/

May 18, 2019 at 10:49 pm #3142May 20, 2019 at 12:20 pm #3145I do believe he is working on all builds as we speak, this forum is great to follow http://www.snbforums.com/threads/dsl-ac68u-asuswrt-merlin-builds-for-dsl-routers.55985/
I think @grisu provided links a few days ago, GNUton cannot work on DSL-AC88U as DSL-AC88U code was (poor) hopefully @grisu will be online later and help update us all
But I hope I am out of date and he has changed his mind
Here another interesting post from GNUton, which DSL-routers could be supported:

May 25, 2019 at 6:22 pm #3163I’ve tried this on my RT-AC3200 and I can’t ever get the AIMesh to show up in the GUI. Given a recent update to that router’s Merlin code, I wonder if he eliminated this altogether? Any knowledge out there?

May 25, 2019 at 6:57 pm #3164I have the RT-AC86U running RMerlins latest firmware – 384.11_2 – and AiMesh is available and working well
Firmware is dated 18/5/2019, so is very recent
I will have a look at the ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AC3200 change-log later tonight
Update: just checked on below link and the RT-A3200 is not supported for AiMesh. So your RT-AC3200 using ASUSWRT-Merlin will also not have the option for AiMesh.

May 26, 2019 at 2:54 am #3165You are right. I could have sworn it was AIMesh compatible when I bought it. I didn’t think I would need it, so must have just missed that. Thanks for checking and reminding me.

May 26, 2019 at 6:50 am #3166No problem, I had a look through the RT-AC3200 changelog on ASUS website, and did not see any references to AiMesh,
Looks like they have missed this model out but unsure why (I assume hardware limitation) from the AiMesh line-up.
