kudos to octopus for engineering around some of the bizarre smart metering limitations
Ditto, Octopus do seem to be taking the initiative in a lot of areas and am glad I joined them a few years ago.

July 11, 2023 at 9:40 pm #25769July 19, 2023 at 8:58 pm #25865I’m hooked, will be interesting to keep an eye on my bill over the remaining of this summer and compare notes again in the Autumn when prices (Gas) may start to creep upwards.
Thanks for you good advise, most appreciatedÂ

So as an update, I am still stuck on the Flexible rate tariff even though I was supposed to switch to the tracker around the 7th July.
I have contacted Octopus for a tracker progress update, but yet still awaiting first contact

Alas Octopus do not offer a live chat type service, so you have to either phone or drop them an email.

Yeah phone email or i’ve also had faster response from them via twitter dm.
A friend of mine was in the same boat and their move to tracker was delayed, i think he got in touch via twitter and they sorted it fairly quickly and backdated it to the original date as well.

Deals available:
British Gas Smart Aug24 v9 offers a 12-month fix for ÂŁ2,072 a year. There is a ÂŁ200 dual-fuel in exit fees and it’s equal to the price cap. The deal is available to all existing customers but they’ll need to have or get smart meters.
British Gas The Fixed One v23 offers a 12-month fix for ÂŁ2,099 a year. It has ÂŁ200 dual-fuel exit fees and is one percent more than price cap.

July 20, 2023 at 10:09 pm #25878Just got my first bill, slightly confused how they work it all out, need to take some time to work it out – its split between old tarrif and the new fixed tarrif and is slightly odd how they done it…. doesn’t work out quiet right…
For instance in first part, they owe me money as the estimated reading is way higher so they calculate it out then just put Credit but no value in ÂŁ..
then they do next month, x charge etc and then at the bottom Credit ÂŁx then hit me with the exit fee so bit confusing to work out…
Gonna take a look the weekend..
I put the figures into my S/S I keep to track usage etc and even the actual kwh usage is different to what they calculate… its always been spot on before… and so its all a bit of a mess lol
Overall it seems i’m still in credit but be nice work it out to see how they calculated it

July 21, 2023 at 5:55 am #25880September 29, 2023 at 6:14 pm #27182Just taken a reading for my Gas (not taken a actual reading since July). They have estimated usage since July so last 2 bills, looks like I’m in for some credit as I’m way below what they have estimated as not had heating on.
Looking good, will wait for my bill in a few days time, this plus water credit of ÂŁ14 looking good :)
Like to have a bit of credit to cover anything over the normal usage and be nice for the gas what with winter slowly setting in, albeit in most recent years not needed to turn it on till Nov/Dec.

September 30, 2023 at 8:08 am #27188Since I read you post, just checked my account (duel fuel) and am over ÂŁ500 in credit, we used last month ÂŁ100 gas and electric and pay currently over ÂŁ200 a month.
So this morning have logged onto our Octopus Account and reduced our monthly payments to ÂŁ150.
I realise Gas usage and Gas and Electric unit price will increase over the next few month, but the market is now relativity stable, so will keep an eye on expenditure and hope for a mild Winter, nice to keep a few pounds in our pocket for Xmas

September 30, 2023 at 9:53 am #27190Yes, I went into my water account & increased my DD by ÂŁ1 (back to what i was paying) as because of when I get my bill, a little while after, they always increase there prices BUT they don’t alter my DD so I end up owing them money so I now make sure I’m a little above there recommended DD so that it covers the price increase.
Now admittedly, we are meant to now get reduced prices due to the effective refund of some money but there is no details about that yet or when we will actually start to get it so I figure, leave my DD as it was plus I got ÂŁ14 in credit so hopefully this will cover the next year’s bill and then if the credit increases sufficiently, then the following year I’ll just go with the recommended as I’d have the credit to help offset the increase.
As for Gas & Elec, I’m waiting on my bill to see how much credit I have as in theory I should end up with probably 98% of the Gas payments for last 2 months & Octobers payment (as payment is made on 1st of each month) in credit, only deduction will be the standing charge. So waiting to see. I think I’ve only used 2 units of gas since July as not had heating on.
Elec is always accurate as that’s a smart meter so that’s always correct, the Gas is still the standard one as I’m tempted to change it BUT at the same time, its located outside the front of property so they can come and read it any time they want to so from that point of view, its no real issue. Plus with the Gas smart meters, they use batteries and displays can go dead etc so means having to keep getting them changed every few years as apparently they tend to replace the meter as opposed to fit a new battery (no clue why that is unless battery isn’t changeable?).
Personally I like to keep a bit of credit on my gas account as that helps when winter comes round, if its cold etc, at least I not got to find extra money, I know I got credit to cover it. It is surprising how quickly the credit goes though in the winter months.

February 11, 2024 at 11:49 am #30546Hi all,
So currently waiting to see I my payments will be changed as current supplier is doing a DD review so waiting to see if they increase my payments or not.
Got a annual report and it seems for Elec, I could change to 1 tariff that will save me approx. ÂŁ20 for the year but seeing as my fix runs out in June, it’s not worth it right now as I have the ÂŁ75 exit fee to pay. For Gas it’s a bit unclear as one part says I’m on cheapest tariff, then below it, it says could switch and save ÂŁ8 a year but as said not worth switching either for me at the moment due to exit fees and tariff ending in June.
Not heard a date yet when I’ll hear if DD is to go up/down/stay the same.
