Hi all,
So i’ve noticed a bit of a odd issue and wondered if anyone had any ideas…
Basically I have a HP Microserver gen 10 plus running esxi 7 and it has a ILo card.
I have ILo configured using dedicated ilo port and that shows up on network list on RT-AX86U, albeit shows as DHCP but it is static but minor point.
I then have network cable plugged into port 1 on Microserver LAN ports with esxi 7 configured using static IP. I can reach the esxi 7 interface via browser ok, i can even ping the IP from the RT-AX86U network tools BUT it doesn’t show in the network client list of what’s connected, the IP address is not found listed or the MAC address so I’m slightly buzzled.
I know LAN port 1 can be used as shared ILO port but i’ve checked and shared ILO is not configured and its def on dedicated ILO so… the mystery continues.. any ideas?
As said I can reach the esxi 7 via a browser on my pc and login, the VMs all show up on the router with there IPs so its not causing a issue, just more of an annoyance as to why it isn’t showing up…
Thanks
Kev

January 22, 2022 at 11:05 am #17310You do have some interesting problems
If the iLO card is live (double check), What is IP address of iLO card ? I ask as iLO cards use (DNS)/Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) through a separate dedicated management network and maybe a port issues etc.
Is IP address same as Router /subnet etc.
What is Microserver LAN port IP address ?
Any port forwarding configured on router ?
and Finally, change from Port 1 to another, just for testing purposes ?

January 22, 2022 at 11:20 am #17311Hi,
Yep, unsure how i get these issues tbh :(
The ILO card is on 192.168.1.244, static, DHCP turned off and DNS is configured static also.
Ip of router is 192.168.1.254, both same subnet.
Only port forwarding is for .11 to a box that is only used occasionally so.
I’ll try changing it from port 1 to port 2 and see what happens later as its in use atm.
Thanks
Kev

Why .254 ? just curious .

January 22, 2022 at 1:51 pm #17313the BT smarthub was 192.168.1.254 so I setup the ASUS on same IP to avoid changing other devices, was simplest solution :)

That makes sense,
does the LAN DHCP Server scope (IP Pool Ending Address) exclude 254 ?
If time was no issue, I would change 192.168.1.254 back to .1

January 22, 2022 at 2:55 pm #17315Just tried moving from port 1 to port 2 and no go, lost access to everything…. I’ve put it back in port 1.
I suspect I need to re-config vmware to use port 2 as it is likely set to use port 1.
Will have to look at this some more…

January 22, 2022 at 2:59 pm #17316Yes, DHCP only goes up to around .133, I’ve left the remaining IPs for static assignment. Eventually I will reduce DHCP scope but at the moment the highest DHCP address is .133 so I set the max to .133.

February 1, 2022 at 5:31 pm #17499Update on this..
Since I did the firmware update, the ILO and server itself IP are now both showing, so unsure if router simply needed a reboot to pick it up or if the firmware was the issue but since updating to .46061, it now shows up…
Rather odd but at least it is showing now :)

February 1, 2022 at 6:16 pm #17500Really! so updating your RT-AX86U firmware hopefully fixed the network client issues.
Great news and in reality a simple fix, but as you say, how odd
