lol I want to get the MECM (SCCM) PXE boot working so I can play with builds on a physical device as I’d like to try and move into this area job wise as it looks like my existing role is on the way out so although probably hard to get into as no “real world” experience in it and can’t get exposure via work as pigeon hold, I’d like to actually practice building a laptop from a image and getting everything working and stuff just fine so I’m more confident when applying to try and get int that role albeit I realise most are probably now setting everything up in the cloud etc I can’t do that as that costs money to setup etc and unfortunately i just don’t have the funds for that but I’m hoping its basically the same in terms of adding drivers and getting a machine to build based and use X driver if laptop A or Y driver if laptop B etc to accommodate for different models/types etc.
Raspberry pi is on the back burner for now, this has been brought to the for front for now.
I’m also not sure a Ip Helper will work as correct me if I’m wrong but it seems IP helpers are for getting a machine in subnet A to talk to a device in subnet B and my network is all in the same subnet.

Good money in that area also

July 7, 2023 at 6:58 pm #25703Yes, I’ve done normal support for a good number of years but would like to try and move into this area now. My thinking is I’ve done the side where you build a machine and set it up etc and supported stuff in general, be nice to now move to effectively the backend side of things.
I thought I was doing well getting the server setup and building a VM, i thought would work for physical device but clearly not for some reason so need to figure out why that is some how. Once i can get this to work, i can start to import drivers and get the TS to pick up different models and build with appropriate drivers etc after that’s done, I’ll be more confident apply for roles etc. i realise prob get low money to start with but hopefully will be a team i can work/learn from and then progress either within that company or change jobs elsewhere for more money.

July 7, 2023 at 7:36 pm #25705Does sound like aiming for a VMware Certification is a good step also for the CV

July 7, 2023 at 8:23 pm #25707Yeah would be nice, although I’m not sure if Cloud i.e AWS, Azure etc is taking over in that space?

July 10, 2023 at 8:56 pm #25750So think I’ve resolved it….. Would appear I actually didn’t need to do anything…. It looks to simply be that my NIC adapter I’m using has been used in MECM and it wont allow it to be re-used. I have to mark it as exempt so that it wont “discover” it and then I can keep using it.
Only issue is, the existing machine I’d have to delete as it knows it exists atm.
So I’ve managed to find an adapter for the inbuilt NIC on the laptop I have (doesn’t have a normal rj45 port) so I’ve marked that as exempt so I can practice building it as needed until I get a working image.
Now to work on the drivers etc finally…. this is the problem with doing stuff then leaving it for a while and coming back t it… I thought it was all working but there has been few MECM updates since and windows update so you never know if its broke anything…

July 11, 2023 at 8:18 am #25753So MECM (SCCM) PXE boot was stopped due to NIC adapter being already allocated and is relates to the MAC address.
I did read that some NIC Adapters in use do not support remote imaging of devices.
Good you are getting there

July 12, 2023 at 9:34 pm #25786Yeah, its a reg key you can enter in the MAC addressed and then it wont discover them so hence you can re-use it.
I’m now working on getting drivers added for the device so i can then try to deploy a image and see if it comes out ok..
