How are you calculating ping, is this within the game itself ? what is value? Ping is only one factor to consider when gaming

Yes, it show in game, I got net stats turned on so showing actual ping, is not that bad but is worse then on different modem. Ping is now between 10-30, before was even 0-that in game value.

Also tested on speed test and there ping is higher on same servers 11-15 where on auto dns settings is 7-9ms.

I know that lantiq based modems working different way than broadcom , they got applied red Solomon code which add a bit of error protection what cause slighty lower ping and you got fec errors count on booth, downstream and upstream. Broadcom don’t have this ability to correct errors on fastpatch so there is no fec errors on downstream but only on upstream.

Understood, take a look at below attachment and ensure your QoS is set-up as mine, just make sure if you are on 50/10 service, then your Upload /Download speeds are set bout 4 -2 meg below what you can actual achieve, this stop buffer bloat at router?

change you queue discipline to fq_codel and give the game a try ??

Change the zero to PPPoE over VDSL

Then go to Bandwidth Monitor tab and ensure you drag Highest priority over the PC playing fortnight, then click apply

Strange is with these settings I got exactly same results like with QOS turned off. Ping in game dropping to zero but had several ping jumps in 45ms plus which wasn’t very nice in action moment. I think that problem may be AI Protection, will try with QOS and without, and with Ai protection disabled.

QoS will help when your router get busy with lots of traffic from different devices maxing out your bandwidth (Streaming) etc.

AiProtection whist gaming for that device should be disabled and just ensure PC has a local AV installed.

Are you gaming via wifi or Ethernet (ethernet is best for many reasons) ?

It maybe worth a try, if you have an old BT Huawei hg612 3b modem – this is Broadcom and use that if you fancy, they are on Ebay for around £15,  does not support G.inp but as your Cab is ECI (I think) , no real benefit for you

Ai protection was on by default on Merlin fw, I turned off yesterday but didn’t checked in game. The only routher where Ai protection worked without issues was rt-ac68u, since then I don’t use it, and yes I have AV software on every pc, laptop, even mobile phones.

I playing games using WiFi, with bandwidth 1.3Gb/s router-pc, shouldn’t cause delays in ping, never does in past…. 😋

I consider to get modem with broadcom chipset, I know that probably I will loose on sync but slighty better ping is worth it 😅

on RT-AX88U …i have noticed there is a lag issue when AiProtection – Infected Device Prevention and Blocking is On ….. turn it off it will work fine
