An update for Windows 11 is offering a new tweak for the SMB compression feature that could make file transfers much smoother for IT admins and all.
SMB compression allows an administrator, user, or application to request compression of files as they transfer over the network.
This removes the effort involved in manually compressing and decompressing a file, causes less congestion for the other files on the network, and files take less time to transfer, at the cost of slightly increased CPU usage during transfers.
What’s different here?
SMB compression functionality has been included in all the previous iterations of Windows 11.However, the new update will enable you to apply the compression to files under 100MiB where it didn’t previously unless you were up to the task of modifying our system’s registry.

September 23, 2022 at 6:55 am #20970Win11 22H2 update infos for unsupported HW:
Update to Win11 22H2 still working on all machines with inplace upgrade (on running Win11 with setup.exe from iso-file)!
It doesn’t come automatically on unsupported HW with update process, but can easily be done with new downloaded iso from MS downloadtool.
a)
If only CPU is not compatible (like i-7700k) or you got only TPM1.2 you have to add an registry key, restart computer (maybe not neccessary) and run setup from original 22H2 iso:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup]
“AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU”=dword:00000001Or copy these 2 lines in a new text-file, rename it to something.reg and run it.
b)
If more things are incompatible you have to delete (or rename with .bak) appraiserres.dll and create new text-file which you name appraiserres.dll instead.
Then run setup (no registry things at all) WITH updates activated and have fun with Win11 22H2!Even working on very old Dual-Core and MBR disk on logical partition which has been sold with WinXP.

September 23, 2022 at 7:46 am #20974Good to see you are still supporting the unsupported HW for Windows 11, I did note this publication from Microsoft also giving options regarding installation for Windows 11 including registry key values and bypass the check for TPM 2.0 .

February 23, 2023 at 7:59 am #22856The next big Windows 11 feature drop is imminent.
Now, we’re fast approaching the second feature drop for Windows 11 version 22H2, which has been finalized internally and is expected to begin rolling out in the next handful of weeks. This second feature drop, also known as “Moment 2” internally, has been in testing with Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel for a number of months already.
- Tablet-optimized Taskbar
- Modern System Tray flyout
- New Taskbar search bar options
- Search in Task Manager
- Energy recommendations in Settings
- Full-screen Widgets Panel
- Third-party Widget support
- Studio Effects in Quick Settings
- Voice Access enhancements
The Moment 2 feature drop will begin rolling out via Windows Update as part of the March 2023 security release for Windows 11. Users who want access to these new features now can join the Windows Insider Release Preview Channel for early access.

May 22, 2023 at 4:52 am #24612Hey everyone, I just saw this update on Win11 and thought I’d share my thoughts. It looks like the SMB compression tweak has made things a little more user-friendly for IT admins and us regular folks. Now there’s no need to sweat the manual compression and decompression of files on the network, which I think is really cool. Plus it helps with file transfer times, albeit at the cost of a bit higher CPU usage during transfers. It’s about time this feature got an enhancement, right?
