Xbox Controllers Missing Batteries? Microsoft Offering Free Fix – UK Included
Some Xbox players have been left scratching their heads after discovering their brand-new controllers arrived with no batteries in the box. The issue, which has been quietly affecting certain units since late 2025, has now been officially acknowledged by Microsoft.
Normally, Xbox controllers ship with a pair of AA batteries, so the missing pack caught many buyers off guard. The good news? Microsoft is now offering a free rechargeable battery pack and USB-C cable to those affected.
Yes — this applies in the UK too. The problem isn’t region-specific, meaning UK customers who received a controller without batteries may be eligible for compensation.
There is a catch, though — you must register your controller to claim the free replacement. Microsoft is not automatically sending these out. To check if you qualify, you’ll need to:
- Locate your controller’s serial number
- Register the device through your Microsoft account
- Confirm eligibility
Only certain batches are affected, so not every controller will qualify — but it’s definitely worth checking if yours arrived empty.
Therefore
If your Xbox controller came without batteries, don’t bin it or buy replacements just yet — you could be entitled to a better, rechargeable upgrade for free.In a completely sane world, madness is the only freedom (J.G.Ballard).
