ah thanks for checking…even my BT smart hub 2 stopped working now and they’re useless at fixing anything (new smart hub didnt work and have to wait a week for an engineer), have to have them listen to a phone call I had on Saturday to have them believe the guy told me my 14 day cooling off period resets and I can cancel, Virgin broadband time I think!

    Cheers

    thanks

smart hub 2 , I cant for the life of me get going in bridge mode, albeit some claim to have got it working , its definitely not supported fully, the closest i saw was this ; https://community.bt.com/t5/Home-setup-Wi-Fi-network/Smart-Hub-2-as-a-Modem/td-p/1922978

yeah i found the same as you, the Huawei MT992 i found a few on ebay but closer to £250-300 and i know i paid a bit for the asus but (!), the Zyxel and Zisa are both alibaba jobs and dont really seem to be in stock one you dive into it unless you want to buy 500 of em.

Draytek 166 from all i read was meant to be released q4 this year but not heard anything about it

    thanks!

hmm, I think you’re right, you could use the google wifi as some sort of bridge for the ethernet but wouldnt mesh.

I think its back to the old setup unless you any ideas on a g.fast modem?

    thanks for the advice!

Modem only would be ideal as i do like the google wifi.

So, I have a google puk plugged into it at the moment (LAN2) (google wifi acts as arouter too, and thats what i had before on non-g.fast with the draytek 130 modem)

BT just gave me the smart hub 2 and then 3 discs (which are awful compared to g wifi)

As I said though, at the moment, the 88u cant even get the DSL connection (a solid light or say its connected in the UI)

Thanks for the replies….haha yeah I get the jabs for it being the worlds most expensive modem, however, only 2 modems that exist that support g.fast from what I can see, a Huawei MT992 and a Zyxel , £300 on ebay for the Huawei and zyxel only on Alibaba but i couldnt find any sellers.

I couldnt get the Huawei MT992 from BT either (they used to ship with early g.fast), so that left this, yeah its expensive to be just a modem. I used to have normal non g.fast with google wifi which worked great to give ethernet downstairs and mesh wifi through the house. If the ac88u gives as good wifi coverage that would be great but I do need the ethernet downstairs, I’ve not had great luck with powerline adapters and I already have the google wifi.

So, here I am…sorry for the length post but hopefully it shows all the info. I’ll take just trying to get it hold a DSL connection for now without the bridge only, but help with both would be great 😊

    attached pics of the setup…
