I have just updated to the latest firmware (1.1.2.3_790) released by ASUS yesterday and L2TP problem is still there.
Have you tried a factory reset, It would be good to hear from @ @kamiboy as they also had issues ? Edit: try a wired connection as issue via wifi was original problem ? See https://uktechhub.com/forums/topic/asus-dsl-n16-issue-with-wifi-show-me-password-is-incorrect/page/2/#post-4997
Yes, I have tried factory resetting with no luck.
The reboot also happens when no device is connected with WiFi, it is only my PC connected to the modem via Ethernet cable.
It seems that we should wait a few months for ASUS to fix this in the next firmware update.

The reboot happens even without any device connected via WiFi. It is only my PC connected to the modem through a Ethernet cable.
